My enthusiasm for both sciences and maths is a deciding factor for choosing optometry as a career, which integrates both the courses together. Studying in the UK will allow me to experience the diverse cultures and to enhance my global experience. Also, the British qualifications and education systems have an impressive reputation in Canada specifically within the optometry field which has led to my decision of studying optometry in the UK.
My passion and interest in becoming an optometrist will be a great opportunity for me to serve people directly to improve their vision. It will also allow me to enhance my scientific knowledge by utilizing innovative ways in which eye diseases could be prevented effectively and efficiently. During my post-secondary education, I have taken courses such as: Introductory Biology I and II, Genetics, Psychology, Human Anatomy and Physiology which will be an asset as part of optometry school. Taking these courses have allowed me to develop an understanding of the structures and functions of the human body, the various ocular diseases and mutations related to recessive and dominant genes that can lead to eye disorders. This knowledge will help me in my career as a future optometrist, by carefully examining and implementing treatments for various eye disorders by having a foundation knowledge in how to overcome infections and abnormalities of the eyes, by understanding how antibodies work against viruses and
