Actively engaged in many epidemiological and clinical studies for the past two years, I have become increasingly fascinated by using advanced methodologies to disentangle the etiology of mental disorders. Through my backgrounds of medicine and public health, I realized that the integration of bioinformatics, biostatistics and epidemiology is critical to expand the understanding of psychiatric disorders. To progress my knowledge, and research further, I now need to take my education to the next level; as such, I am seeking an opportunity to pursue a Quantitative Biomedical Sciences PhD at Dartmouth College. My first in-depth involvement with biomedical data was during my medical training in China. At that time, I learned about the epidemiology, …show more content…

I have provided statistical and analytical support for multiple psychiatric clinical trials under the supervisions of Dr. Philip Miller and Dr. Leslie McIntosh. For instance, my current project is a large sample-size (n=1,500) multi-site RCT that is underpinned by a complex study design (two steps with two randomizations). My primary role is to manage, analyze and visualize the study data. From a novice to a proficient R programmer, I successfully constructed a dashboard using R Shiny, which requires advanced programming and data manipulation skills. Besides developing the dashboard, I have actively engaged in other clinical studies by using advanced statistical models such as structural equation modeling to analyze the data. In addition to my work, I would love to acquire more techniques through online resources. Recently, I finished the Machine Learning course at Coursera, and Python training at Datacamp, which built up my skills as well as my interests in healthcare data science. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed working in the Healthy Mind Lab, and it has exposed me to many advanced clinical studies, my goal to become a healthcare data scientist has never altered. To progress my career in this direction, I would now like to complete specialized research in my field of interest as part of a recognized
