My Aspiration For Adult Nursing Personal Statement

My aspiration to undertake the Bachelor of Nursing (Adult) degree has stemmed from personal experiences, for the last 4 years I have spent a lot of time in hospitals with my son. 2 years ago he was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. The way nurses treated my son and I was overwhelming. They made us feel comfortable and safe as hospital trips for my son are always traumatic due to his condition. After the diagnosis the nurses comforted and reassured me at one of the hardest times of my life. These nurses were an inspiration to me. This enhanced my desire and drive to work within care. Being a parent to an autistic child has taught me many skills I am now more accepting and aware of others and their circumstances. It has so made me calmer in stressful situations. This is why I am applying for adult nursing to be able to work with adults with wide range of health issues and challenges. Two years ago I left my part time job in retail to work in domiciliary care. Finally, I have been given the time, opportunity and support after dedicating the last five years to my son, to be able to achieve this dream. Being a young mother has been the most difficult yet rewarding role, it has taught me a lot about myself and my ability to love and care for another person. I don’t just want a job to support my child I want a career and with the great network of family and friends I have around me willing to help so I can achieve this goal. To be a nurse requires dedication, commitment and empathy, qualities I have believe I have and am willing to improve on throughout my journey to becoming a nurse.
