Compassion, respect, empathy, and treating people with dignity are values I hold dear and have been brought up with and follow. When I was younger I thought as children do, that all children must be happy and have a safe place to live and a family who love them, however, as I got older I realised that this was not the case for many children. I felt a sense of injustice and realised then that I wanted to work in a job that helps care for children/young people and families, making sure their basic rights are met and they are safe. I feel that it has always been part of my personality to be a supportive, nurturing, caring and a community focused individual. I have enjoyed the modules on development through the life stages and equality, diversity and rights in health and social care. In particular learning about development through life stages opened my mind to the debate of Nature vs Nurture, and introduced me to different factors that affect human development. I have always been quite shy in personality, but over the years with support of my family and good friends I have overcome my shyness and can now confidently say that I feel comfortable to face a challenge. I believe I have grown in confidence and feel I am a sociable person, who is easily approachable and a good listener, I always try to be available and supportive for my friends and family when they need me. My interests lie in working with children/young people and families, I believe my natural desire to want to help and enable others in vulnerable and difficult situations are qualities that will suit a career in social care work. It is for this reason that I want to continue my studies in Social care work and hope that it will help give me an opportunity to make a difference in positively transforming people’s
