The second problem in the road was the weather. Considering the fact that the overarching theme of our class was rain, my tournament was unfortunately rained out. With help from my professor, I learned something new about communicating. He was able to help construct an email for all the participants explaining what the plan was moving forward. The last problem was rescheduling along with refunds. Once the tournament was cancelled, we had to come up with ideas to replace them with so the players still had opportunity to get their money’s worth. This allowed me to use my skills in both crisis management and problem solving. My first thought was to give the players a voucher so they could come at their convenience to play. Around my sophomore year of high school, I was manager of the junior varsity baseball team, where I learned a bit about coaching along with statistics, and marketing. I continued to manage the team throughout the summer and fall seasons, and was eventually brought up to manage the varsity teams. Along with my experiences in high school, I completed two internships before I enrolled in college. One working with a charity golf tournament, and the other working for the Washington Nationals. Today, I have already completed six internships in the sporting industry. I believe that getting experience from any angel in necessary to move up in the industry fast. Dr. Minkove and Dr. DeLuca point out that “experimental learning has become the driving force of university around the world, and is a crucial part of many sport management programs (Deluca & Minkove, 2015)”. I agree completely with this idea because the sports management field is very hands on, and it is imperative to learn about every part as much as you can. Experimental learning allows the person to go out and see what interests them and apply the information that they learned in class in the real world. By adding the Seminar and Field Experience class, it allows students to learn about life skills and along with ways to get the internships they want. Personal communication was also mentioned in the reading. Now a days, students are so quick to give up once a potential boss did not reply to an email. In an industry, students need to know that they have to revert back to the more “old fashioned” ways of communicating, phone calls. That they have to be “more innovative and engage in conversations with various stakeholders (Deluca & Minkove, 2015)”. The course allows for students to come up with elevator pitches and informational interviews to push them out of their comfort zone
