Dear Michael,
I am writing this letter to you in hopes of helping you understand what is taking place in our business communications course. I do understand that as a native speaker to English, this course may be a bit difficult for you, however please don't worry as I am always here to help you. This week we are putting our focuses on the "Word Power" conference. This conference has been set up for students to participate in a fun new way of introducing new words and phrases. These words and phrases are English culture specific and may be difficult to learn, however with my help I am hoping you will understand the definition of the word as well as understand the phrases that this word provokes.
In this conference we are discussing the word "Joe". Joe is a simple word, yet is used in so many ways to refer to so much. The word "Joe" in its simplest form is a noun and refers to a person, place or thing. Its most common reference is to a person; "Joe" is a name or nickname. It has become an easy way to refer to other phrases that mean more than just a name. The word is very informal and is used in a casual context. The military community has also adopted the word "Joe" and it used to refer to a cup of coffee, "May I have a cup of Joe to go with my breakfast?" In addition the Armed Forces use the word to refer to a United States soldier anywhere in the world (G.I. Joe), again this is a very informal way of addressing a military personnel. The abbreviation to "G.I." stands for Government Issued. While these are the most common use of the word there are many more.
In order for you to grasp a better understanding of the word, I have researched your home country (Spain) to see if your homeland uses the word in any familiar ways. You should be able to relate to the word, as the names Jose, Joseph, and Josephine, all derive from the word "Joe". In addition "St. Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago is the oldest town in Trinidad and Tobago. Originally named San José de Oruña, it served as the capital of Spanish Trinidad between 1592 and 1783" (Wikipedia).
The original sentence uses a more “pompous” word, “curtailment” when a less formal word choice
Communication is considered to be a two way process, which involves at least two people sharing information (Higgs, Sefton, Street, McAlister & Hay, 2005). It can occur through speech or vocalisation (e.g. crying), non-verbal cues such as facial expressions, gestures, eye contact and through written or other material forms such as pictures (O’Toole, 2012). Communication is considered effective when the intended meaning of the conveyed message is received and understood by the both parties and a point of common understanding is reached (O’Toole, 2012). The goal of effective communication between an Occupational Therapist (OT) and a client is to ultimately deliver an intervention that creates positive participation in occupations that in turn leads to an improvement of health and well-being in the client. This goal is best achieved through the application of client-centered practice, which is accomplished by the development of both mutual understanding and a therapeutic relationship (O’Toole, 2012).
Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with face-to-face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers. As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in-person. Through this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around the people we collaborate with, but can better share thoughts and understand what those people are saying verbally and on paper (p. 60). Do you trust someone you have never met in person? Most people say no, because there is no connection with you and the person until you meet.
Another important part of management is conflict which can occur on many levels when dealing with other cultures especially if there have been frequent mergers, acquisitions, or unfriendly takeovers. Tensions can run high and managers must be aware of potential for workplace violence and have a plan for intervention efforts such and training for conflict resolution. Intrapersonal and interpersonal business communication skills will also be necessary when dealing with the potential difficulties associated with conflict and misunderstood relationships. Intrapersonal communication is, communication with one ' self. For example when we sometimes think in our mind what to say and how to say before speaking. Whereas Interpersonal communication is
Communication is essential to any successful business or workplace. Without it, a business place would simply disintegrate. Communication has two important parts to it. The first part is the transfer of meaning. The second part of communication is the understanding of meaning (Robbins & Judge, 2009). Without both, mutual understanding cannot be reached. Another essential aspect of communication is the direction in which communication is flowing. Upwards, downwards, and later communication all require slightly different techniques and approaches from the person communicating (Robbins & Judge, 2009). I experienced communications with one of my subordinates when I had first arrived at my current job. I was new and the job was a bit overwhelming,
The topic of Global Communication is extremely important to the business world in the 21st Century. To illustrate the success and process of operating a business Internationally, I chose to research an established company that does just that. Diageo PLC is a British multinational alcoholic beverage company with headquarters located in London, U.K. and is the world’s largest producer of spirits, beer and wine. The name Diageo was created by the brand consultancy Wolff Olin’s (New York) in 1997 and translates to their slogan “Every day, everywhere people enjoy our products” (www.diageo.com).
With the concepts and skills I have learned from taking Business Communication 3301 I have personally been able to develop proper knowledge of writing a thorough essay to comply with business standards. This course has influenced my planning, searching and structuring in all aspects of my writing. I have learned, the more in depth version to basic skills in order to research the topics given and providing knowledge to properly plan for an assignment. This course assisted me in being able to create a solid foundation on which I am able to evaluate situations and respond accordingly. In essence the importance of this class is recognizing situations and learning proper measures or response. In order to clarify a response a sense of understanding must be known. This class showed the steps to take to recognize, analyze and respond to each individual situation. After gaining the basic knowledge needed to comply with measures,
In today’s era of raising slogan of global village, communication has become a burning issue. The world has turned into a global village, and one cannot survive alone. As man is a social animal, he cannot overcome worldly activities alone. For the fulfillment of daily activities and usual deeds, he needs help from other people and have to communicate with others. Infect, in habitual life everyone spend a lot of time in communicating i.e. writing, reading, talking and listening. People spent most of their time in communicating, for the execution of routine activities everyone needs assistance and support from others. Then communication process starts, no one can communicate alone. There‘s always a sender and one or more receivers.

The effective communication is the key strategy and extremely an important part of organizational success. Insensitive messages can eliminate a company’s goodwill whether it automatically to customers, employees or even a business partner. In the business world the communication plays a very important role. Communication is considered to be the most important skill for a person to becoming successful in his/her career. In the same time with the explosion of globalization process the “international” word started to be more and more used, like the “international communication”. Globalization has various aspects which affect the world in several different ways. One of this ways is the international language spoken in the world. The most popular language is English and it is used for communication between people from different nations who do not share a common native language. Effective business communication is central to the success of an individual’s career and consequently to that of the overall business entity. It would be imaginable therefore that there is some form of correlation between effective communication skills and such success. To put this into context, University of Kent (2011) has placed Verbal Communication at the top of the ten skills that employers most commonly look for. On the same note, anything that hinders effective communication is bound to have a negative effect not only on the specific message delivery, but also on the overall success of a career. In this paper, some of the barriers to effective business communication are discussed, with a few examples of how they affect the process.
It is not easy to understand significance of some things and their impact until you actually undergo them. Ability to effectively communicate and work is one such thing. Before I started business communication class, I was very pessimistic about my communication abilities and my competence in rapidly evolving field of business communication. I was unconfident and nervous on my first day of class. I quickly realized that business communication is course that you will never learn until you energetically engage in various situations of listening and speaking. However, with all wonderful experiences of participation in the class, I personally felt that I gained a real experience without even working in an organization. Interactive nature of the class combined with wonderful teaching of Diana has really helped me to gain immortal knowledge. Through this course, I have refined my communication skills and strengthened my confidence to deliver professional standards and competencies emphasized by potential employers. I would like to share how each module of the course helped me to hone my interpersonal skills:

According to Mueller and Lee (2002) there are three communication satisfaction dimensions, in the Downs and Hazen (1977) model that represents the communication experience in the organisational context. These communication dimensions include corporate information, communication climate and media quality.
