The industry bought into focus throughout will be the sports industry as it is the aspiration of the writer’s career choice after graduating from university. The sports industry is a business enterprise focused on sports. This market includes organisations, activities, and people who are involved in organising, promoting, producing and facilitating the progression of sports and the entertainment of all stakeholders (Pederson 2011). Sports are loved by many people, it is not just a game to these people it is a way of life, the industry entertains society and gives them an escape from the norms of life. (Commonwealth Games Australia, 2018) Finally the Confederation of Australian sport whose role is the development of society to which participation in sport is recognised in the country and valued through economic, social and health benefits. (Confederation of Australian Sport 2018) The sports industry is viewed well by the broader public as it is important in a majority of Australians lives with over 90% of Australian adults having interest in sports, while 8.4 million adults and 3 million children participate yearly. (Ausport 2017) Involvement within the industry is quite significant as over 220,000 people are employed and boast the biggest volunteer base in the country with 1.8 million (ausport 2017). The roles and professions are players, coaches, trainers, doctors, agents, media, marketing, backroom staff, and owners (Ausport 2017). Sports started more for entertainment, however, its growth has transformed it into one of the biggest industries in the world fighting to be the most powerful and profitable (Pederson 2011). During a BBC news interview in 2015, Jorge states the traits which made him successful were “working hard, having ambition, determination, communication, honesty/respect, doing the right things and most importantly treating your players properly” (Mendes 2015). Many people have argued that agents are only in it for the money however with Mendes these allegations seem far off as he has been integral in the career of Cristiano Ronaldo and is even the Godfather to his first son Cristiano junior. Strengths and weaknesses everyone has them, the writer’s will be reflected on in relation to valued ones stated by Jorge Mendes that are important to being a successful player agent. Being brought up in a strict but honest European household honesty, respect and hard work had been instilled since a young age. I would be taught that not everything comes easy in life so, you need to earn it. I have proved this throughout high school and continued this in life after school by keeping up with full-time university, football, and work. Ambition and determination is what has got me through these busy times while keeping a high standard of school and university. The aspect which could be counted as my weakness is communication.
