Personal Philosophy Assignment Personal Definition of Work: Work is an individual task that can make life acceptable. My Life Philosophy: Having a job that brings contentment in both the responsibilities and salary that one may earn will deliver self-satisfaction into my life. Being happy with the work that I perform each day is what will make my life worth living. Work is the expending of effort for the creation of value. If there's no effort, but it's still considered work, it should be automated; if there's no value, the work is pointless and wasteful. My Life Philosophy: It’s a way to exercise the human body in various ways. These ways may include playing baseball, basketball, or running. It’s a rewarding way to relax and have fun with family and friends. Play in our species serves many valuable purposes. It is a means by which children develop their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and moral capacities. It is a means of creating and preserving friendships. It also provides a state of mind that, in adults as well as children, is uniquely suited for high-level reasoning, insightful problem solving, and all sorts of creative endeavors. (Gray, P.) A definition of play is any behavior that is freely chosen, personally directed, and intrinsically motivated. Play allows the use of creativity while developing imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Personal Definition of Leisure: A way to relax or unwind from the daily grind of school and Working, such as watching a game of basketball on television or attending an actual event. Leisure includes the freedom from work, duties, and responsibilities. My Life Philosophy: A way to rest and enjoy “free time” away from the stress and pressures that life may bring to me. Leisure is time free from obligations, work, and tasks. Viewed as activities that people engage in during their free time – activities that are not work oriented or that do not involve life maintenance such as work or sleep (Hurd and Anderson). Serious leisure is the systematic pursuit of an amateur, hobbyist or volunteer activity sufficiently substantial and interesting in nature for the participant to find a career there in the acquisition and expression of a combination of its special skills, knowledge and experience (Stebbins, 1992:3).
