It was the second day of the youth hunt, my dad and I had been preparing for awhile. We got my 20 gauge mossberg and went out to kill a deer. We got in my stand, and waited for a deer to walk out of the woods so I could shoot my first deer.
I was waiting and waiting and waiting, and started to lose hope. But then I heard a blue jay chirp and my dad told me that they chirp at deer alot. Then 10 minutes later when I saw nothing I started to lose hope. Then We started seeing lots of squirrels and I told my dad “if We don't see a deer i’m going to shoot a squirrel.
Then my dad poked me in the arm and whispered “deer”. I slowly turned my head and watched an eight pointer walk out of the woods. I slowly picked up my gun and rested it on the bar,
After an hour and forty five minute drive I was home. I still had over two hours of prime hunting left. I saw several deer that afternoon but they were all too far away for a shot. Just before dark I had a doe come in to about 125 yards away. Knowing that there was little chance that I could hit the deer I took a shot. Sure enough It was a clean miss. Disappointed I hopped back in my car and headed back to East Lansing. The next day I got up at five in the morning and headed to Muskegon. The next Tuesday my roommate and I decided to try are luck again. My roommate and I went to high school together and we had always been hunting partners. I had a class at one o'clock that day so we could only hunt till eleven that morning. We were in the field a half hour before light. I was optimistic that I could get a descent shot off that morning.
Even tho i did not get an deer i had a great time. I was regretting not shooting at that buck but i am sure glad that i have a friend that takes me hunting now. I had the best night in that
My dad and I go hunting every weekend during deer season which is from mid of Novmber to the first of Janurary. We go sit at 6:00am and we leave at 8:00am,but why we sit we will be wacthing birds and squirrals playing in the place we have corn they will eat it like deer does.We half to sit still were the deer can’t see us in the deer stand. When we go hunting you have to climb up in the deer stand and then sit patiertly to wait for something to come out of the woods. We look three or four different way in the stand.”My dad stated,” theres a deer.We go hunting in Pearson Georgia. When we go hunting we have to be careful because the gun could go off.It could be dangous going hunting by yourself. But if anything happen I can help him.Because we
At the age of 12 my Dad told me I would finally be able to go hunting with him, if I wanted. Although a pistol can be used, a...
As I sit here, I have the desire to take a deer home with me. Somewhere in these vast woods a buck is stepping, with no warning that today is the day that I capture him. There is an ominous crow cackle, one that any protagonist would consider as a warning, I consider it an opportunity. My deer did not accept this warning; at least it was not shown.
I am sitting in the passenger side as my dad is driving, and we are on our way to my grandpa's land which is located about 25 minutes east of Dubuque. First thing we do when we get there is to finish putting on our coats, and then to grab our bows out of the back, then I close my door softly. Walking through the open field I have dead weeds and tall grass crunching under my boots, and at the end of the field we reach a barbed wire fence that we crawl under. Then we cross under a bunch of pine trees and go about 30 yards into the woods to where my tree stand sits. Then my dad tells me good luck and he heads down into the gully where his stand is located. So I then climb the 12 foot ladder and sit on the seat and put on my safety belt and get my arrow ready on the bow string. I survey the land and look for any movement, so I look to the left where there is another set of pine trees, then I look in front of me into the first set of pine trees don't see anything yet. Then I hear a sound of crunching leaves and immediately look to my right and sure enough there is a big doe getting ready to cross the fence 15 yards away.
one awful day when the sun was setting I got my crossbow and did shoot
I was too excited to sleep that night so I just stayed up and read. It was finally 4:30 in the morning and time to get up. After a quick bowl of cereal. I jumped in the pickup and drove to where I was going to hunt. It was still dark when I got there so I grabbed my stuff and started up the mountain. I got to where I wanted to glass from, and waited for it to get light, so I could start looking for elk.
The world is improving every second of the day. Our culture has upgraded since the time of the Native Americans. Hunting has modernized because of the advancement of technology and weaponry. Do you love to hunt deer? I do too. As avid deer hunters, we spend countless hours preparing our bows or rifles so we’re ready to make the shot when it counts. We try different ammos and arrows, we sight in our weapons and we spend a good amount of time target shooting to make sure everything’s perfect. If everything goes right, we get the chance to take the shot.
It was the middle of October, and it was finally time for my long awaited moose hunt. I have waited ever since I was a little girl for this opportunity, and it was finally here. So, my father and I packed up our stuff and left the warmth of Phoenix. We were leaving the "Valley of the Sun" and headed for a place called Wyoming. After two days and fourteen long hours of driving, we made it to our hunting unit.
As a diehard deer hunter I can tell you it is not easy. No aspect of hunting is easy in any way. Hunting is a physical sport that can drain you mentally and physically. There will be days in the woods where you bleed, where your sweating through every layer of clothing you have on, and last but not least cry. Learning how to hunt takes a lot of time and patience but, it also takes a passion for the sport. The more knowledgeable you are about what your hunting the better off you’ll be.
...ls. She bolted to my right and out into an open field. When the doe spooked, this time so did the buck, ending my hopes of another shot.
It was in July, and we wanted to go camping. I asked my dad if we could go up to our family's cabin in Elk Springs, which is near Montrose. He agreed, so Chase, Tyler and I, all sixteen years old, packed our stuff and were ready to go camping. With excitement, we jumped into Chase's truck, and took off to the woods.
...his story, they always make fun of me for not firing. Most of them would have taken the shot, knowing full well that it might be a doe. They would not hesitate to break the law. However, what my family has taught me about getting what you want doesn’t mean you have to break the rules. Getting what you want and doing it right, is what is going to make you a better person because you are going to appreciate it much more. If I had taken the life of the wrong deer, I would have to live with the fact that I killed an innocent creature. I learned patience and how to control my emotions by forcing myself to make a proper judgment in a situation in which I could have lost my self-control. As I look back upon the incident now I can tell you that it was the single most important moment in my life as an outdoorsman. I grew as an individual, hunter and most importantly morally.
