My Meditation
The quest for my purpose in life troubled me throughout high school due to my ability to grasp the realities of life better than before. I was just coming out of a childhood was characterized by all play and learning with virtually no time to ponder or question my surrounding. However, as I advanced in my teenage years, I started to sense the poverty and misery of life around me. The social stratification in my school and neighborhood was more visible to me than ever before.
“Cool” kids drove “cool” cars and formed “cool” cliques within the school. On the other hand, poor kids sat back and suffered bullying at the hands of everything that was considered “cool”, which was not associated with the peasantry. I belonged to the latter …show more content…

At school, kids derived satisfaction by bullying and trampling on the egos of others. Additionally, our nation derived satisfaction by asserting its authority across the world through wars, and later failing to reward it soldiers or heroes of war (the agents of war) appropriately to live comfortably. Some turned beggars in the streets like the homeless veteran in my neighborhood. Unlike these two incidences, where happiness was gained at the expense of others (students and soldiers), My community derived satisfaction by helping meet the needs of the homeless people around us, such as providing them with snacks and …show more content…

After reciting the usual Lord’s prayer before dinner, she embarked on answering my question in a brief, clear, precise speech that targeted not only me but also my younger sister and probably my indifferent dad. “The primary goal of life is happiness. All of us are in pursuit of happiness regardless of the myriad of activities that we do. It is the reason for our constant engagement in work, which makes me and your dad meet most of your needs and live a relatively comfortable life", she paused. "Helping these unfortunate homeless people is an example of a good deed. Doing good makes us feel good and bring happiness into our lives. It innate to want to do good and to strive towards good. Moreover, good deeds help us grow because they make us understand people’s problems and appreciate how lucky we are in our lives”, she continued. “Doing good is like planting the tree of kindness and love. Surely, you will reap the fruits of joy and happiness from this tree forever. Therefore, you should do good,” she
