Something that I have always been extremely passionate about is sports. My freshman and sophomore year of highschool I played four varsity sports, volleyball, basketball, golf, and softball. After my sophomore I decided to get a job as a lifeguard and work full time in the summer rather than continuing my softball career. For the remaining of high school I continued to play volleyball, basketball, and golf, all of which I love. Without athletics I am not positive I would be the student I am today, sports keep me healthy and on top of my grades and schoolwork. One extracurricular activity that I am very passionate about would be the FFA. FFA has taught me so many things and it has brought me so many places. I 've learned how to be a great speaker from different events my advisor has challenged me to do. Public speaking has taken me so many places and I have attributed most of my success to FFA. When I was a freshmen I competed and received gold in the creed speaking competition. As a sophomore, I tried extemporaneous speaking and received a gold for that as well. As a junior I really wanted to challenge myself so I took up agricultural sales as my winter career development experience. I felt as though I was watching a train barrelling towards me, an inevitable bullet that had come tumbling out of the opposing pitcher’s arm. But instead I stood immobilized, watching my team's only chance of winning whiz by me. Strike three. I heard my team from behind me shouting “SWING!” with my mind screaming the same. But my bat remained unmoving, the pop of the catcher's glove like the nail into the coffin that was our defeat. All I had to do to keep our hopes of winning hope alive was swing, and yet I couldn't. I stayed on the field afterwards, tossing the ball up in the air and swinging away, landing it on the thick maple barrel of the bat.

At last, my final year of high school is towards its end. I have had a very rough year for my twelfth grade year but I know that I can still do it.

The site I volunteered at was Cradles to Crayons in Boston, MA. This group provides children up to age 12 that are living in low income and homeless situations, with essential items they may not be able obtain otherwise. This includes clothes, shoes, school supplies, toys, books, and more. This helps these children at home, in school, and at play. Their overall mission since being founded in 2002 is to give children in need the most important basics of life. Their approach revolves around the idea of people helping other people. Better off communities are paired up with poor communities and those who have spare items donate them, and they are given to those in need.
The first place I volunteered for was the Habitat for Humanity Restore. This is a donation center that sells used appliances, furniture, and home accessories at a lower price. They are addressing our landfill problems. Most people do not consider donating their used appliances or furniture and they would just throw it out instead. This adds to the already negative pile-ups in landfills. The U.S alone is already the number one trash producing country in the world producing 1,609 pounds of trash per person per year (Solid Waste& Landfill Facts). Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
Have you ever been so nervous for a big event that was only a couple of days away ? What about the moment you have been waiting for your whole life ? I have , that big moment was my high school graduation.The best moment of my life and also the scariest. It took a lot of preparation to get me ready such as the perfect dress, the perfect hairstyle , and building the self conscious up to go.
The activity that is most important to me is cross country. I have been in cross country since freshman year. I started out slower, my first year and I was injured the last month. Little by little, I worked my way up each year. This year I finished third on my team at the Minnesota State Cross Country Meet. I improved because I dedicated all of the year to training. For the past two summers, I have ran the most miles on the team with over 400 miles. Each year I have broken out of my shell, became less shy, and meet more people. This year I was one of the captains of the team. As a captain, I was a role model for the rest of the team. Being a captain helped me become more outgoing and it developed my leadership skills.
One outreach program we had in high school was the soup kitchen program. In its broadest sense, children from poor families are the participants and beneficiaries of the soup kitchen. Every Saturday morning, these children go to the parish and participate in the different programs
One of the main event that I did in the fifth grade was the homeless project. My experience being homeless part of the fifth grade curriculum. Twelve hours before I went to my elementary school to experience being a homeless person, I had a great dinner. The dinner consisted of grilled hamburgers, baked beans, French fries and corn. In order to survive being homeless, I had twice the amount of food that I usually have. When I experienced being homeless, I learned to appreciate my family as a valuable object to have in a person’s heart through leaving the house for the first time, watching videos and spending the night in a cardboard box.
I went to the grocery store and got cases of water, bags of bread, and stuff to make the sandwiches. I had finished preparing the bags and each had granola bars, fruit, ham and cheese sandwiches, water, toothpaste, and other hygiene products. My dad and I had arrived outside the homeless shelter and were ready to pass the bags out as we saw the swarm of people. Hundreds maybe even thousands of people gathered sitting in what little shade there was. I knew we had a homeless problem, but not to this extent and the bags I had made were going to make little to no difference on the vast amount of people that had been sitting outside. I was a little disappointed at first to be completely honest because I was not prepared for that many people. If I would have known there would have been so many people I would have made more bags. We drove around the block planning on what we were going to do and saw some tents set up. My dad and I were curious as to what they were, so we got out the car and saw that these people had been giving people food and I walked up to them and asked if there was any way I could help them. These people in the tents were actually an organization called Open Arms Outreach and a few girls scouts. They gladly let us help and we brought a few cases of water and the bags I had made and helped pass them out. The organization Open Arms Outreach
There is an organization called Unbound where more than 90% of the donations go to a homeless child. If you could just send a little amount of money, you never know how much you could help someone. You could also just do some things in your free time. You could just go out one day find someone that’s homeless and buy them a meal I guarantee you they will appreciate it. You could also if it’s cold outside give someone a blanket. As you can see, there are so many solutions if people would just try to help and put in some effort.
