Personal Narrative: My First Education Class

Going into this class I did not know what to expect because it was my very first education class. Going into the class I was pretty confident that teaching is what I wanted to do, but I was still a bit nervous that the class would change my mind. Luckily it did not and it reassured me that teaching is what I am meant to do with my life. The class itself was a huge eyeopener for things that I never considered when thinking about pursuing a career in teaching. Junior Achievement was also very helpful and reassuring that I made the correct choice of major. Being a freshman I don't have much to compare to when speaking about classes but I can truly say this course was one of my favorites. I always knew I wanted to teach early childhood but I saw myself teaching third grade or above. When I received my Junior Achievement placement and saw that I got kindergarten, I panicked. I thought it was going to be so much more challenging than it turned out to be. I have always been good with little children but didn't think I would be able to teach them and keep their attention. The class I was placed in were incredible, I did not have trouble with them at all. They were always paying attention, eager to learn new things, and participate in any activity I had planned for that class. My mentor teacher was incredible, although I was only there for five weeks I learned so much from her. She treated her students as equals yet still managed to have control of the classroom. My Junior Achievement experience definitely changed my outlook on kindergarten. Although it would not be my first choice, I would not be completely opposed to it. I know that not all classes or students are going to be like my placement but I would definitely be up for the challenge to teach
