I Am Mexican-American A Girl From Two Lands There was a few times where I got the question, “Do you speak Spanish or do you need me to translate?” This was upsetting because I felt offended, Spanish was my first language and being bilingual has always had its advantages. Although, not only is language something I am proud of I am also proud of my heritage and all the unique food I grew up with. In my family there is a lot of diversity because of my parents and grandparents. Although it was my first language, that doesn’t mean I am perfect at it because I only learned to speak the language. For the most part my Spanish is really clean and understandable but I am taking Native Speakers Spanish 1 this year so that I can learn to read and write well. The food we eat during lunch will either be big meals or small meals it depends on what will be for dinner. In addition to regular meals which I have daily, which by the way is not the same every single day, there is also foods I eat during a certain season. For example, during the colder months usually the food I eat consists of soups and warmer foods rather than food that isn’t as steamy. Then, for the more warmer months it is mainly cold fruits and salads, or carne asada by the pool, when it is warmer out I don’t want a hot soup and during cold months I don’t want to be near the pool. This is all normal to me and all the food is always delicious because my grandma makes the best guacamole and salsa, and I love my food spicy or somewhat spicy.
