Personal Narrative Essay: Softball Controversy

Since I was three years old my whole life has consisted on excelling in school and playing softball. I’d stuck with many things in life, but I have always dedicated myself to those two things in particular. Softball was something that I began to love the first time I picked up a bat, I always told myself that I would never stop playing. Short-stop, outfield, pitcher, third base, if you name it I’ve played it. I’ve grown to adapt and be such an all-around player, I could literally play anywhere. My only controversy was playing catcher. Personally I loved the position honestly, however my mother did not. I had always been one of smallest on all my teams, I didn’t mind it, but my mom only saw it as an injury waiting to happen especially when it came to me catching. …show more content…

Never the less my tiny size seemed to find a way to capture their attention as usual, as well as the coaches. My new head coaches this year was a lady named Beth, and her husband Steve. They were very competitive, so I was surprised when she came up to me and said, “Would you like to try catching this season?” I was caught very off-guard by this question, and couldn’t allocate any other response, but I didn’t want it to seem like I was scared, so I tried to give a confident nod to the question. During the practices leading up to our first game I was constantly training for catching. I was naturally pretty good at it since I have good hand eye coordination, which is probably why I liked the position so much. Our first game was only a couple days away and I was more than ready.
