Every team requires one, and some say it is the hardest position on the field to play. The hind-catcher is without a doubt a necessity to every ball team’s success. This is the position who can take command of the playing field. If played well, one can have a major impact on how smoothly a team plays together and affect the outcome of the game. There are many requirements for the person who plays the role of the catcher: something as simple as being prepared to play the positon, to having the responsibility of making sure the team has a good relationship with each other. However, the most obvious requirement is the athletic ability required and being physically able to play the position. The position of catcher is not an easy position to play, but is essential to the game of baseball. The first step to mastering the art of catching is to be physically and mentally prepared. It starts by having the proper equipment. This is more of a preference than anything. One should feel comfortable behind the plate while being well protected. It is also important to have the desire to fill the role of the catcher on a team. This simply means one must be knowledgeable in what he or she is doing while also having the motivation to play the position. For any catcher being prepared is always the first step, and one of the more important steps, in playing the position well. Along with the right preparation, it will profit a catcher greatly if he or she can communicate to other players and is willing to take charge of the field. Last, every catcher must be physically able to play the position and in addition to that must have the athletic ability. Not every catcher is the same.
