IMSA's unique learning opportunities strike me with awe. Through the personalized learning and strategic plan I plan to succeed by following the plan and going above and beyond. I would continue to go to the YSP or Young Scholars Program and also practice advance mathematics at the academy for I will be taking Pre- Calculus as a sophomore. The academy from what I have learned seems to greatly encourage advancement in mathematics in which I am strong in.
The personalized learning program seems like a step in the right direction and a plan that would be much more accurate than that present at a generic public high school in which the teacher caters a plan that would hopefully suit the whole class/grade. This personalized plan would help strengthen
IMSA has a great community, which is one of the main reason I am applying. IMSA has great opportunities to forward an interest in the medical and STEM field, which tend to go hand and hand. Not only do I think that the critical thinking and independent research classes will help benefit me and the peers I will work with, I believe that the extracurricular activities at IMSA are what really makes this school stand out. At the school I currently go to, they prioritize sports over most other extracurriculars, with the highest funded club being the debate and speech teams. Even though these clubs are important in building teamwork and leadership abilities, they are very limited in learning about medical and STEM terms. This is why I believe that the clubs at IMSA such as their science olympiad team will help me learn more about the field that I love. By having peers that will constantly challenge me every day, this will make me strive to become better than them and have something to work for.
I believe that it’s a good decision to study and have knowledge about this Multi-Tier Support system. Any instructor who is really committed to the students should get a better understanding of it, to find out if his students are at risk or not of academic failure or falling behind. This system help him to rethink if he needs to modify the instruction activities in a way that facilitates the absorption of the core curriculum for students that are not succeeding. Appropriate and immediate feedback should be provided if the teacher is able to assess the areas that a child is having difficulties and respond with an specific strategy that leads him to progress. As an outcome of early intervention, ongoing support and efficient teaching all learners will benefit from MTSS.
This essay will discuss the terms differentiated learnnig and personalised learning as well as highlight how these two forms of learning can be implemented in the classroom. Differentiated learning can be defined as an instruction that is an individualised process of teaching and learning that is based on the learners’ prior knowledge, abilities, development readiness, interests and learning styles (Grierson & Woloshyn, 2012). On the other hand personalised learning involves creating an individual learning plan to meet the needs of a particular student. In addition personalised learning does not mean teaching each child individually but trying to cater in several ways for the variety of children you have in the class (Dean, 2006).
Why do you want to go to Asmsa? Why leave home for this school? Is it even the right place for you? All of these questions I have heard be asked before, by my parents, my friends, even I ask myself if this is the right choice, but every time I hear it, I have the answer ready. Of course Asmsa is the right place for me, not only is the school I’ve looked forward to going to since the 7th grade, It is the type of school I’ve always needed to put me in the mindset for learning. So as to improve the K-12 education, the United States needs to redesign the high schools. The initiative by the president to redesign the high schools is significant in encouraging the schools to use the available resources. Schools together with their partners should take into using the resources that exist effectively. These resources are in the local, state and the federal so as to transform the experience in the high schools for the youth through energy of the whole school redesign. This effort of redesigning the high schools will help challenge them and their partners in rethinking learning and teaching. Teachers should know their students well enough to individualize the classroom activities so all students have strengths in each lesson. Through collaborative efforts, teachers can gain knowledge about the students and new ways to teach according to different learning styles. Working together, each student can receive an individualized education where their full potential is used.
My three year plan is called the Strive for Excellence plan. For the first two year I will be focusing on the decline of test scores for the last three years. By making all staff views all 2,800 students that were below average for all three years. Requiring mandatory training for all teachers and staff should be complete upon reviewing data. So they are able to identify their student’s specific strengths and weakness. The teacher will know where they need to concentrate their attention. (Sue W. The importance of having a curriculum that accommodates diverse learners, it allows the child to learn at their own level or ability. A child with emotional and intellectual challenges may not have the verbal or comprehension skills or the ability to control their body as their peers. With this in mind, classes with diverse learners can excel with an adjusted curriculum. An activity for example, using large Legos to teach the entire class their colors or numbers can help the intellectual challenge by asking to build a building by using on certain colors or amounts. Artifact 1: Artifact 1, under Tab C: Curricular Content Knowledge, the Instructional Plan Module, completed during ELSE 6193 Laboratory Experience was completed. For the Instructional Module, candidates were to create and teach two lesson plans for both elementary and secondary instructional settings. The lessons plans were to address one or more of the goals and objectives that were written in each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). The candidates were to describe in detail the adaptations and modification that were needed for the target students to be able to fully participate in each lesson. Additionally, each lesson plan was to incorporate some type of technology.
I was raised in rural wyoming where hunting was not only tradition, but a way of life. Since I could walk I had been accompanying my dad on all varieties of hunts. My father did all that was possible to pass on the knowledge and lessons needed for me to become a responsible hunter and man. However, there are some lessons that can only be learned through personal experience. They are often the ones of moral and ethical decisions. My sophomore year of high school I committed the hunting mistake most outstanding in my mind.
Walking into this class this year I was so small minded in the art of writing. Thinking that I already knew everything about it, I soon realized that creative writing wasn’t a joke. To me writing was putting pencil to a paper and making the words go to together, but Mr. Sullivan showed us that there is much more to writing than just a piece of wood and a piece of paper. He showed us that there are five steps to a perfect story.
Meeting the needs of academic diverse learners is the responsibility of their instructor. These diverse learners may include students who are one or more grade levels below classmates and the gifted student who is that much above. How can educators meet the needs of these students when their learning abilities are found at opposite ends of the instructional spectrum? The answer is planning successful lessons involving engaging activities, a variety of texts, technology implementation, and flexible grouping. The following is a lesson I implemented covering these key components.
This urban legend sounds like a great idea but the problems with this idea are that not every individual understands what type of learning style they use, that the learning style is best for their education, and that most people don’t fit just one style of learning. Although there have been tests for people to discover their learning style those tests cluster learners in groups and do not account for students who have multiple learning styles. In the tests you would be placed in the area you scored highest even if there were multiple areas of learning styles present. The tests are not very reliable to group students in so they are inefficient to place learners in these categories of learning styles. Another problem with this educational strategy is knowing “how to tailor instruction to particular learning styles,” (174). It is difficult to tailor to each learners style and usually teaching must be done in a way to teach the majority because it is “more fruitful to focus on the fundamental things that learners have in common than on the myriad of styles on which they are different from each other,” (175). The issue with this hypothesis is that what learners say they prefer good for them is not always the best.
