Most of us, as individuals, make conscious decisions every day, which impact the way we live our lives. Based on the information we have obtained we make the best choice possible for ourselves, we develop a philosophy regarding that certain subject. For example, some may live by the philosophy of eating only organic foods. Other may have a philosophy regarding politics, and some may just adopt existing philosophies regarding the subject they are interested in. The following is a personal philosophy of leadership. Take caution to never compromise these building blocks of a relationship, as it will compromise your own being. A good leader will foster an atmosphere of growth, ingenuity, ideas, and comfort. It does not mean that a good leader will not focus on the growth of the organization, but rather involve and engage everyone in the organization. Show them their value and importance of their daily contribution is respected and welcomed. Employee engagement in, The Leadership Experience, states, “Fully engaged employees care deeply about the organization and actively seek ways to serve the mission.” (Daft, 2016). It requires to put aside ones ego, and to work on the development and growth of others. At times to forego our own personal goals, in order to assist other to achieve theirs. Remember being a good leader does not happen when a title is handed to us. Being a good leader happens when we strive to be the best person we can be. When we live by our values everyday, and demonstrate them no matter where we are. We become good leaders, not by our choice, but rather by those that we lead. Applying the philosophy that I cannot ask someone to do something that I would not be willing to do, is my simple philosophy of following. Being open minded as a follower allows me to accept change and deal with it in a professional manner. Having a positive attitude, and recognizing my peers for a job well done shows my appreciation for their hard work and collaboration. As a follower I intend to be the first to volunteer for a new project, the last to take praise for a team accomplishment.
