My first experience with children was when I would babysit younger kids. Caring for them while they were sick brought a sense of joy nursing them back to health. After doing this for so long, I grew a passion for taking care of children as a profession. I want to help kids feel better and watch them grow into world-changing individuals, so that is why I chose Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as my career. With this goal in mind, the University of Pennsylvania is the ideal school for me to explore and master this field of knowledge. The University of Pennsylvania provides a variety of different schools that help individuals grow into strong leaders. The particular undergraduate school I desire to be in is the school of nursing, which is the top
I plan to pursue a career in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This career take many steps to complete. But it is different routes you can take and different programs you can enroll in for this profession. Family Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication and diagnose patients and give treatment. They can work either in hospitals and or clinics as a primary healthcare provider. They can also order specific x-rays and test that need to be done for a patient. The nurse practitioners interact with less patients in a clinic than in a hospital. Np’s have privileges to prescribe medications in every state.
There have been three constants that have sparked a passion in my life; caring for others, education and my love for the Hispanic community. These three passions have been a driving force in leading me to where I am today, both in my career and my personal life. I am confident that these constants will continue to be my motivating propelling me to reach the pinnacle in the nursing field, obtaining and practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“Nurses don’t wait until October to celebrate Make a Difference Day — they make a difference every day”, explains an unknown author. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives on being challenged and I always have new goals to achieve, so nursing suits me as few other careers offer as much diversity and learning opportunities so, attending Virginia Commonwealth University is something that has been my desire for the longest. The intentions that I have for when I become a nurse practitioner are to aid and care for the sick, as well as I am able but also to assist doctors and staff as well as I am capable.
The transition from student to a qualified nurse can be a stressful and overwhelming ex-perience for many newly qualified nurses. This opinion is widely upheld throughout the literature with Higgins et al (2010) maintaining that many of the problems experienced are due to lack of support during this initial transition and a period of preceptorship would be invaluable.
When people think of a pediatric nurse practitioner, they normally think of a person who performs examinations, takes blood samples, and measures vital signs of children who are sick. What they don’t see are the countless hours spent getting to know the patient, showing sympathy and understanding, and having to explain the diagnosis and treatment plans to the parents and sometimes to the child. According to my career cruising inventory, any job in the medical field would be right for me. However, after reading the descriptions, I concluded that a pediatric nurse practitioner was the best path. I will be attending nursing school to receive my nurse practitioner license, while specializing in pediatrics. The skills, educational requirements,
Anatole France once stated, “To accomplish great things, you must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” I believe that my life of nursing and will research start in Baltimore, Maryland at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. I believe a whole new world will be open to me because I decided to live the life of bettering the lives of others. Similarly, to my mentor Zwade Marshall, I want to do so much for my community by using the greatest tools, which are education and medicine. I know that a graduate degree and research is not the last step. Then again I know that the University of Maryland is the greatest place to start.
Kimberly, M. (2014, February 20). 5 Tips for Getting into PA School - PAs Connect. PAs
Ever since I was a little girl, my motivation to pursue a career in the medical field was evident. While other children my age watched Cartoon Network, I found more value in shows like ‘Trauma: Life in the ER’ and ‘A Baby Story.’ It wasn’t until high school that I decided I would become a nurse, specifically. I cannot say that I had a revelation or a particular experience that swayed my decision. However, ever since I began pursuing the career of nursing, I discover each and every subsequent day that it is what I was put on this earth to do.
... qualities I find common to doctors, nurses, physician assistants and other health care workers and I believe I share the traits that are common to PAs. Pursuing a career as a PA would continually challenge me as an individual. For me, it is hard not to draw parallels between the skills required of a PA and those required of an athlete. We are motivators and good listeners. We have high expectations of ourselves and of those around us. We must understand when to lead and when to delegate. We must manage our time and our resources to best serve all of those who need attention. If I am chosen for your program, I will approach my education and my career as I have my experience as a student athlete: with determination, dedication and a deep appreciation for the opportunity. I am confident that I can and will achieve my goal of becoming a physician assistant.
Penn as an institution is powerfully driven by a nonpareil dedication to medical research. As a firm believer of a well rounded education, I feel pragmatism, community service, and research should accompany an education, and Penn I perceive follows the initiative through wholly.
My interest in nursing began at age 18 at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut where I was trained as a Certified Care Partner, then as a Phlebotomist, followed by a two year surgical floor assignment and a one year burn unit stint.
My experience so far at William Penn University has been a roller coaster ride. It has had its ups and downs similar to any other new experience to a person. As a freshman it takes some adjusting to get used to the style, especially when I have had the support from my parents for a long time. I have had moments here that I have enjoyed, and other ones that I would rather not have to deal with. It has been a full 7 weeks, but it definitely has been an experience I will need in the future and it is better to learn it now than later on down the road.
I approached Pennstate this past August with a great deal of anxiety, interest, and excitement. I had no clue what school would be like, and I knew that I would have to learn how to adjust to my new student life. The rapid adaptation I would need is one that would be comparable a scientist in a lab, trying to discover a cure for the new strain of flu virus that would thrust the world into an unnecessary panic.
During my undergraduate career, I conducted research which resulted in a professional journal submission, maintained full time student status, earned exceptional grades, found time to serve as Psi Chi chapter President, and worked full time as a graphic designer and real estate agent. These accomplishments are a reflection of motivation, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to quality performance. Based on research interests and my strong record of excellence, I am confident that I will be a productive student in your program.
