Typically, when we see or hear the word "own" our minds tend to drift to items we have purchased. Since we've purchased items we take ownership over them, like tangible items such as computers. However that is not always the case. For example when someone tells another person "You owned that speech!" they obviously don't mean it literally. More so they're talking about skills that you have mastered or "owned" in order to present the speech to the best of your abilities, intangible items. Whereas sense of self takes on a different role in our lives. This is something that one must figure out in the journey of life. When we have an image of ourselves or even start to compare ourselves to others just to kind of get can idea of who we are as a person, we tend to categorize ourselves and venture off to find other people who are similar to us. We can vividly see it in all high schools. We have the jocks, nerds, popular people, drama people and etc. Whatever group that you may find yourself in or whichever one you feel that you belong in, then that is your sense of self. But it goes far beyond high school and plays an instrumental role on how we perceive ourselves. With opinions and beliefs constantly being affected by exterior aspects like: whom we socialize with, how we choose to spend our free time doing, the type of meals we eat, down to the time that we wake is all something that may change our opinions and ultimately our sense of self. Who we believe we are is our sense of self. Whatever category of the social triangle we believe we belong in is our sense of self. With that, comes ownership and the relationship between these two. Ownership is a direct result of our sense of self. Whether we care to admit it or not we purchase tangible items due to the self image we have of our selfs. For example a billionaire that owns the most expensive car and house in the world would have only bought those things because he/she has an image of themselves that they are able to and have the desire to do so. Someone whom doesn't have the self image of themselves would not do the same thing because that's not who they believe they are.
