Some people believe prisons shouldn’t treat you humanely, others believe that is an important factor in the punishment. Prisons should improve living conditions and treat prisoners humanely. Prisoners should be able to interact with other prisoners on a daily basis and have physical activities almost every day. Overcrowding is a big issue within prisons because they keep too many prisoners. There are a lot of consequences that also factor into the prison system. Some may include the inmates that are never allowed to have contact and will later on become mentally ill. Prisons are slowly becoming a place where people become worse than they were when they went in.
Overcrowding is a major cause in today's prisons. Inmates will serve long sentences sometimes for no apparent reason. Sometimes inmates will serve sentences for something like manslaughter. Another cause of overcrowding is when people get sent back to the prisons in …show more content…

If you have ever gone to prison for anything it’s very hard to do anything after that. This leads past inmates to doubt their ability to start anew in life. Inmates just go back to their old way of living, because life doesn’t show them any other way of living new after getting out of prison. Many will go right back to prison because they will get caught up again with the same people. A lot of inmates will become mentally ill as a result of being imprisoned. This results in past inmates going to the mental ward and the mental ward having to deal with these people that are messed up because the prisons don’t do anything about it. Another consequence is reduced staff, which means there are more fights and rape incidents which furthers the PTSD that the inmates have. The lack of officers leads to fatigue and stress in the officers that are on duty because they have to work longer hours to make up for the lack of officer that is securing the prison's grounds.
