Anyone can walk into a classroom and teach a classroom full of students using a teacher’s manual, however that does not make that person an outstanding educator. An outstanding educator possesses qualities that make them stand out above other educators. They are the ones that go above and beyond and leave a lasting impression on his or her students year after year. The most important qualities an outstanding educator possesses are patience, the ability to be flexible, and the ability to engage all students. Patience is an important quality to have when teaching children of any age. Not every child learns quickly and some students may become frustrated when they cannot comprehend the information being taught at the same rate as their peers. When this situation occurs, an outstanding teacher does not stress or give up on his or her student. Patience is what helps students persevere and shows them that they are capable of doing anything that they set their minds to. Not only is patience essential for students, but also for their parents/guardians. This is a quality that one learns with experience. Every day a teacher walks into school with a set plan in mind, however, sometimes things do not go as planned. An outstanding educator is one that can look past the distractions that may occur throughout the school day. Because children work at different paces, flexibility becomes key when it comes to teaching the curriculum.
