For this assignment, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mr. Eric James. Our interview shades light on the fact that all employees perspective on organizational structure is not always as it appears in black and white. He is currently employed with Carolina HealthCare System (CHS) a medical organization. He has been employed with this organization for over seven years preceding the completion of his military term. Coming from the United States Navy Mr. James views on organizational structure and culture was completely different from his experiences that he has had since employed with CHS. James was asked to describe in three words, “Administratively Run Mess”. So we explored this perspective of Mr. James option of CHS. The organization in a whole is running mostly of a hierarchy of administrative business degrees but an urgent care needs a lot of the medical knowledge of what goes on on the ground floor of this type of organization. Mr. James is employed at an urgent care facility where the same structure method of a clinic or medical office are sometimes not applicable to the urgent care environment. This can most likely be corrected with some bottom-up communication from the subordinates and middle managers to help improve the flow and functional structure of the organization. I asked Mr. James has he ever attempted to contact to upper managers with suggestions that he feels will improve the flow and overall patient experience. Yes, he has. He notes that he would suggest things and there would be an attempt to work toward it, then there was a change in management or lack of follow through. This types of behavior in management can suppress the ideas and motivation of employees, making them lose interest and feel less connected to the
