Do you think O.J. Simpson should have been found guilty of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman? Orenthal James Simpson, also known as O.J. or the Juice, used to be known as a running back in the NFL, until he was accused of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in June of 1994. Nicole and Ron were found murdered outside of Nicole’s condominium in Los Angeles, California. The trial that attempted to seek justice for Nicole and Ron’s families gained attention across the nation. Many people followed the O.J. Simpson trial to see if the Pro Football Hall of Famer would be found guilty or not guilty of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend. On the night of the murders, O.J. attended his daughter’s dance recital along with Nicole and their son. After the recital, O.J. was supposedly home at 11:00 p.m., which happens to be the estimated time that the murders took place, getting ready for his 11:45 p.m. flight to Chicago. O.J. was heading to Chicago to attend a promotional event, that was planned months in advance, and at 11:00 p.m., he was said to have been sitting at his home waiting for a limousine to arrive to transport him to the airport. “If the glove don’t fit, you must acquit” was a popular phrase that derived from a moment in the O.J. Simpson trial where O.J. was asked to put on the bloody gloves that were believed to have been the gloves that the murderer wore. When O.J. went to put on the gloves, he struggled. After struggling to put the gloves on his hands, O.J. said: “they’re too small” (“O.J. Throws Gloves”). With the gloves being too small for O.J., the jury had to believe that O.J. could not have committed the murders. However, there is the possibility that O.J. Simpson did commit the murders of Nicole and Ron, but to try to save himself, he faked the struggle of putting the gloves on. Furthermore, after O.J. tugged harder on the gloves, he was able to get them on his hands, which means O.J. could have been found guilty (“O.J. Throws Gloves”). On the other hand, DNA evidence could not have been strong enough to convince the jury that O.J. was guilty. Tests from the blood concluded that the blood could have come from multiple sources. For example, the blood found on a pair of socks in O.J.’s room could have come from one in twenty-one billion sources, and the blood found tracing away from the murder victims could have been from one in 240,000 people.
