Obesity ... troublesome problem for many of us, many tried more than one way to lose weight, some of us succeeded, others failed, these days we hear about surgical procedures that may help us to lose more weight, here are some facts about obesity surgery.
What are the different types of obesity surgeries?
There are two main types of obesity procedures, restrictive and restrictive/malabsorptive procedures, in restrictive procedures the surgeon will decrease your stomach size to hold less food and so you will eat less food and digest food slowly, example for this procedure are Gastric band and gastric sleeve, the other is restrictive / malabsorptive procedure also known as gastric bypass, in which the surgeon will shorten your gastrointestinal …show more content…

- Bowel obstruction.
- Gall stones.
- Hernia.
- Low blood sugar.
- Ulcers.
- Stomach perforation.
- Malnutrition.
- Anaemia, osteoporosis due to malabsorption of iron and calcium and can be reversed by iron and calcium supplements.
Will I feel good after the surgery?
Most patients will lose about 60% of their extra weight after the surgery.
Health problems associated with the extra weight also will subsides as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea and asthma, dyslipidaemia.
You will need to do exercise and change some habits in your life to maintain your weight and health goals, and you may need more support from your family and your friends.
Here are some tips that help you eating smoothly:
- Eat and drink slowly, eating and drinking quickly may cause dumping, which is nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, take at least 30 minutes to eat your meals, and wait 30 – 45 minutes between meals and your drink, and take 30- 60 minutes to drink one glass (250 ml) of liquid.
- Eat several small meals.
- Drink liquid to prevent dehydration.
- Chew food thoroughly to avoid intestinal blockage.
- Choose high protein
