Background
Nursing case management as a specialty is facing a number of workforce challenges. A gap analyses can identify differences between the current state of on the job training and education for case managers and the challenges and opportunities for improved efficiency in the role.
Objectives
Performing a gap analysis by comparing current case management standards of practice, role delineation and function studies, and best practices with on the job training and educational processes currently in place to develop new and experienced case managers while making recommendations to address any educational deficits identified in the gap analysis.

A gap analyses can identify differences between the current state of on the education for case managers and the challenges and opportunities for improved efficiency in the role. Such analyses provide the opportunities to clarify role confusion for aspiring nurse case managers.
Problem Statement To keep pace with the rapidly changing healthcare environment and the workforce challenges that nurse case managers face, nurse leaders and educators must identify a clear set of competencies, and the gaps between the current state of nurse case management education and the desired best educational practices and case management curriculum, and competency assessment, to ensure nurse case managers can perform their jobs effectively.
Purpose
The purpose of this capstone project was to determine what educational approaches and curricula are currently being offered to train and educate new and practicing nurse case managers, as well as to identify a clear set of core competencies for the nurse case manager, current gaps in education, and the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) required of nurse case
