“I am big believer in the notion that as a species we are better together than we are apart, that the common core of our shared humanity is stronger than that which seeks to marginalize us and factualize us and turn us against each other” This quote was said by Joseph Michael Straczynski an American screenwriter, television producer and director, and comic book writer. When referring to share humanity most people think of something humans have in common and that is an specific thing that makes all humans, but in reality shared humanity is much more. As the poem is being narrated by Phil’s old laptop’s perspective, for the computer who is being personalized, Phil, has left him for a new laptop. Now the old laptop is feeling abandoned and with the lost of his owner. This is shown when the old laptop narrates “... I sit here, with his portraits waiting for him to return, I do not think he will” (kaye, s9). The old laptop now is left alone. It has no longer any use to Phil, he had now found a new laptop, the numbers man was now lonely and even with the hope that Phil may use him again, he’s drawn to reality where Phil is never going to go back to him. Choice, another characteristic from shared humanity is proven to be one characteristic that all human posses, even in literature. In this novel, daisy, the main character, goes through a series of events that make her question her own set of believes and make her take some difficult choices that change her view of life. Daisy has just move to England with her dead mother’s sister, Daisy has barely gotten used to her new life with her 4 new cousins and her aunt, when the war began. Her aunt had left to another city before it all happened and it was not possible for her to come back from that point forward the kids are alone. Some time after, the army takes over, this leading to certain events that leads Daisy into a difficult decision . When the army took over the farm, where the kids live, they are send to different locations for their safety. The oldest, Edmond, got a job with the military. And soon after that Daisy and Piper, who is the youngest of all the kids, are sent to the house of a general in another town, in their way there, Daisy decides to pull herself together to be able to keep going, this is shown when she is telling the reader her thinking, “I tried to pull myself together Because I was Pipe’s guardian now and I thought I’d better act like it and make it clear to her that she was safe with me no matter what”(Rosoff,71).
