There were many different nuclear weapons used in World War II. They were not all used in the same way or by the same people. Also, many different people in invented all the different types of bombs and other various weapons. The weapons severely injured and also killing many people at the same time. One nuclear bomb that was used during World War II was the atomic bomb. In the city of Hiroshima, Japan is where the first atomic bomb was dropped. The bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945. This was a gun-type fission bomb that had the nickname “Little Boy”. The next bomb that was dropped was an Implosion-type fission bomb nicknamed “Fat Man”. The United States and Soviet Union agreed that in order to use a nuclear weapon many countries would have to agree with it. One country could not decide by themselves. After this many larger countries decided to give up on their nuclear weapon programs because they thought that not everyone would agree to using the weapons. After a while everyone realized that the plan had failed. Another nuclear weapon used in World War II was the Uranium bomb. The Uranium bomb uses the energy released in Uranium-235. The explosive device can be made by positioning two masses of Uranium-235 so they can be forced together so quickly that they will form a critical mass and a rapid, uncontrolled fission chain. Thermonuclear explosions were also used in World War II. These explosions happened in high temperatures. The high temperatures were required to initiate the nuclear fusion reactions. A nuclear fusion reaction is when two or more atomic nuclei collide at a very high speed and form a new type of nucleus.
