1. A genre is defined as a kind of writing through which authors try to present information in specific ways that have different appeals. The Bible contains different genres in different chapters that portray information in various manners so that the readers can understand. There are four main genres used in the New Testament, and they may include; gospel, epistle/letter, narrative and apocalyptic. The first four books of the New Testament are identified as gospels. These genres tend to preach as the apostles then used verbal messages which were then put in writing forms. There are four main parts of the New Testament. They begin with the Gospels which are narratives of the four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the second part consists of the Acts of Apostles written by evangelist Luke, the third part is letters of the of Saints; Paul, James, Peter, John, and Jude and the last part being the Book of Revelation. Assigning timelines to the books and parts has been extremely hard and has caused division in the Christian society as people argue about the chronological timelines of the parts. However, the book of James is believed to have been the first book to be written. It is thought that the book of James was written between 44 and 49 AD (Livesey, 2014). Parables are memorable stories that Jesus used with imagery so that he could pass a message. Examples of parables include; the Parable of the Faithful Servant found in Matthew 24:42-51 and Parable of the Lost Sheep found in Matthew 18:12-14 among others. On the other hand, aphorisms are short statements that contain the truth. Jesus also used them in His teachings. An example is in Matt. 10:24-25 where Jesus warns his disciples of the coming persecution through two declarative statements.
