A leader is that has the ability to motivate and influence people towards achieving a certain goal. Compassion, strength, and knowledge is the key to show a great and significant leader. All of this quality was in Nelson Mandela. Mandela achieved his goal very efficiently. He planted the seed without uttering the word "win the world cup" to ruby national team captain, Francois Pienaar, in the movie Invictus.
According to the movie, Mandela spent twenty-seven years in prison before he becomes elected president of South Africa in 1994. In prison, he became inspired by a Victorian poem Invictus. The poem was his favorite. According to the movie, he would recite this poem whenever he lost the courage, whenever he felt like just giving up, just lie down never get up again. He was a good listener, a great observer, a great leader who knows when a leader needs to lead and when to be led. The movie shows that how tremendously he leads from the background. He only had one meeting with the rugby team captain which shows the best qualities of a leader. He was humble as a leader when he volunteers to pour the tea himself. He was open-minded when he enjoyed the tea even though it was British custom, not an African. He was very polite when he refers to his maid as a Misses. He showed that he is well informed when he showed concerned about Francois’ ankle injury. He showed a great visionary quality when he sees himself as president of a single nation, not a racially divided country, and wants to use his leadership skill to make South Africa a successful and unified
