Colonization is when a central government, particularly one with higher power than the other, dominates a specific area of land or country. In history Europe tried to colonize specific areas of Africa, while both positive and negative influences came from this experience, the only changes developed by the African people were generally negative. If the United States planned to colonize South America the end result would overall be negative. South America should not be colonized seeing as the lives of the people would be taken over, or majorly altered, and the positive results from the colonization would only benefit the United States.

There were things built that only benefitted the colonizing country and at times that country put in their own people to makes decisions in favor of them. When Europe was trying to colonize Africa, they implanted features and aides that could not be provided by the country alone, but these things mainly benefitted the European people (World History Patterns of Interaction, 2009, pg. 784). This ultimately turns into a negative impact for the colonized country. If the United States colonized South America they would take advantage of their resources and find ways to use them for their benefit only. Although the South American resources are not the only thing that would benefit the United States, they would add specific people into the court system to formulate all decisions that need judging and make it in favor of the United States. When Europe was trying to colonize Africa, it is stated in the novel Things Fall Apart that, “Courts of Equality took place of local customs to determine judicial matters and ensured that local politics and economic activities favored British” (Things Fall Apart, 2012, pg 19). Not only will the resources be taken from South America if colonized by the United States, but their freedoms and the justice they deserve will also be limited if not taken fully by them. When Europe tried to colonize Africa in the textbook World History Patterns of Interaction it states, ”...colonialism reduced local welfare...some colonies improved sanitation and provided hospitals...lifespans increased” (World History Patterns of Interaction, 2009, pg. 784). With colonizing South America it may bring these wonderful things to them that were not a possibility of providing on their own. This will allow for the GDP to increase and the unemployment and fatality rate to decrease. Although this is a possibility of a positive outcome of the colonization, how much of the country would be included in the gain with these things? Also, how long would the United States be able to provide and help with these benefits? In the past when Europe was trying to colonize Africa, because of the difficulty of being able to support a family under the new enforcement of European rules and employment options, men were forced to leave their homes to be able to provide for their family (World History Patterns of Interaction, 2009, pg. 784). Even though the United States could provide these positive possibilities, the long term effect of colonizing South America would still be overall a bad decision to make because people would still be forced out of
