In this AP assignment I will write about the organizations called NCSS. NCSS stands for National Council for the Social Studies. I reason I have picked this organization is because I want to teach students social studies. National Council for the Social Studies was founded in 1921 and is the largest association that is devoted to social studies. From the reading they have grown into a really large organization. The organization spans across all 50 states and into 69 foreign countries. The NCSS has a saying about social studies and it is "the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence." In this organization they literally cover all kinds of social studies such as history, sociology, and natural sciences, this is just naming a few. The NCSS published National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies. I can see this to help teachers help student to learn social studies more effectively. For this they look at what is working for them. What they found that what is working is their core purpose and core values. The NCSS core values are the democratic principles and values which is the very foundation of social studies. The organization affirms cultural diversity, combats discrimination, and recognizes multiple perspectives. To create an understanding of the relationships between and among peoples and countries around the globe. The pursuit of knowledge and looking at varies opinions with respected views. The long term goal that NCSS is called BAG which stand for Big, Audacious Goal. This goal will get the NCSS out of their comfort zone to
