The Bodies of Knowledge provides a set of standards that are relevant for conducting activities within the field of project management. According to Sheperd et al (n.d) the traditional role of BOK is: Defining the scope of the discipline, defining areas in which practitioners can be expected to show expert knowledge, setting certification parameters The project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) does not have a detailed hierarchy, but it does organize knowledge areas at a higher level into knowledge categories called functions (Project Management Institution, 2004). According to (PMBOK Guide, 2004) project management knowledge area describes project management knowledge and practice in terms of their component process. These components have been arranged into 9 knowledge areas, stated as: • Integration - which comprises of Project plan development, project management execution, overall change control. Mzansi’s project plan development was secured with financing from American and Canadian ventures who injected R150 billion through a loan. The project execution will be executed by NKA-D as contracted by Mzansi Rail and AUM. •Scope - this comprises of initiate, scope planning, scope definition, scope verification, scope change control Scope management was able to take place in Mzansi shuttle as the clients clearly stated that the tunnel should travel between Polokwane and Cape Town Bay and the speed of the trail will be 200km/h. Scope change is an outcome that the company faced because the route the project will take is not safe as landslides and other natural disasters could hinder the long-term survival of the shuttle. •Time - are activities were the projects activity is defined, consists of activity sequencing, activity dura... ... middle of paper ... ... the project might encounter if its scope is not dealt with thoroughly, the principles of the BOK will not address issues of Mzansi project that relate to inter-ministerial commissions major focus of safety, infrastructure security and environmental which will result in unsuccessful delivery of the project. It fails to address project complexities and ways to overcome project design problems which lead to project delivery delay. Mzansi project consist of multiple life cycle. PMBOK provides guidance for a project that has a single life cycle. Certification of project managers does not ensure successfully project execute. They are useful in being able to identify certain pitfalls before they occur. The BOK limitations can be based on its lack of specification when dealing with specific project types and its inability to address specific control elements a project.
