I believe that mythology should still be taught in schools, although with less of an emphasis and across more cultures. Myths are important parts of literature, and have complexity that is different than normal novels. Also, myths teach about the culture of their time, as well as how people lived and what they believed. Along these lines, I think that other cultures’ myths should also be taught, as they also teach about the people of their time.
Mythology is an important form of literature that has been around thousands of years. For example, “the stories contain so much complexity and ambiguity that they engage young people in a much more interesting way than straight moral tales” (Worley). Teaching mythology is just as important as other stories. They are a form of literature, just like a poem or novel, and should be treated as such. Also, “Myths continue to fascinate us, even when they come from long ago and far away” (Kromholz). People enjoy reading myths of all kinds, as they give us a new perspective to how things happen. Myths are interesting, and are an integral part of literature.

Children will know that the information is not true, and therefore not give it much weight. Myths would not have a very large effect on religion, but it is a way to learn.
Mythology is an important part of literature, and teaches about culture as well. It is an interesting and enjoyable object to read, and shows you how people thought when there were no other explanations for how things worked. Myths show the values and reasons of the people from their respective times, and how they lived. Myths from cultures other than the Greek are also important for these reasons. Knowing myths does not necessarily mean you have to trust them and believe in them. Mythology is something that needs to be taught to people of all kinds.
