A memorable experience in my life when I first like reading and writing was I was in elementary school. When I was in fifth grade my teacher gave my class a creative writing assignment to do. The assignment could be about anything that we enjoyed whether it was fiction or non-fiction as long as we were able to follow the instructions and complete the assignment we were good as to getting a good grade. I remember trying to come up with different ideas and topics to write about that no one in my class would be able to even compare theirs to mine. So I began brainstorming different ideas that came to my mind. I remember thinking to myself back then of the idea of me coming from a different universe and having incredible abilities that others did …show more content…
When I was given this assignment I was a little intrigued about what to write about and how to start my final paper for this class. I was only allowed to use my textbook for the chapter that I was given to write my paper and I was also allowed to use my notes for that exact chapter. I knew that in order to write my final paper for my class I would have to study and memorize the chapter and start a rough draft on of how I will start my paper and talk about everything that the chapter talks about. When I started writing my paper I had to make sure that I knew what the chapter was about and I needed know the exactly what I was writing about in case I would get asked questions about my paper. When I writing the paper I learned so many unique things that I did not know about the psychological development that the human body and how we as human grow. When I turned in my paper into my teacher I knew that if he was going to ask me about what I wrote about I was beyond prepared for any questions that he had for me. The reason why this was a good writing experience is because I got to learn more about the psychological development and also I was able to get the grade that I wanted for writing a detailed paper explaining everything that the chapter talks
The classes first major writing assignment was simple for the most part in which we were given a clear cut path on what to do. The objective was to analyze an article from a book and explain to the audience of what it was about. I chose the article “Land Of The Giants” by Alex Tizon because the story resonated with me because i am also an immigrant like Alex and many of his experiences i went through as well. The only minor trouble that was presented was the word count and personally i am someone who likes to get straight to the point but with this essay i had to expand and explain my perception of the article.
This showed me that writing can be used to express emotion and it was not just something you had to do in school for a grade. Since I had someone to listen to me share my mental state with, it allowed my behavior to improve immensely. Writing is something I use daily to cope with life’s issues. It allows me to escape from the outside world and just write. I can’t thank Mrs. Williamson enough for all she did for me in creating a strong writer. Throughout my time through grade school I experienced many hardships, and I am happy I had the tools that were instilled in me from my teacher because I am not sure if I would have made it through the many struggles I went through without them. Now since I am on my own in college I write about my day to allow nothing to get built up within me. Writing has allowed for me to turn my entire life around and go in the right direction to being a better person. Without writing or my teacher, Mrs. Williamson, I am not sure where I would’ve ended
I say this because throughout the process, there was never a time that I was satisfied with what I had to put down on paper. I personally felt that my paragraphs didn’t have a main focus, because I wasn’t clear about the topic that I had chosen for this assignment. It was difficult to not gravitate away from the topic, since I was thinking about random things that could potentially associate with bullying. On top of that, I was stressing about whether any of the words that I put down on paper make sense or not. Writing is not a skill that I possess, but I would want to improve it incase I need it in the
Throughout high school my experience as a writer fluctuated quite a bit. Over the years I took many different english classes which included General English, English Composition, Language Arts, and Adolescent Literature. Personally, I believe writing is an important part of education. Each class incorporates writing into their curriculum somehow, whether we were writing research papers, book reports, essays, or speeches.
As mentioned countless times above, during my time in this class, I would love to obtain the writing skill of writing papers that are more condensed and attentive to the matter I am addressing at that point in time. Professionals and even non-professionals will not want to waste their time reading something that could have been addressed in a fewer sentences and words. If I want to stand out in a crowd of equally educated occupational therapists, I need to make sure my writing is formatted and addressed in a professional manner. As a result, I am looking forward to learning how to make myself look as professional as I can in writing. Nevertheless, with learning to write proper papers and documents comes the challenge of making sure enough time is included within my study of this particular course.
Today, in the twenty-first century, it is not uncommon for a child to start writing essays, reports, or even journals for school work starting immediately after they are able to write full sentences. For me, this was not the case. As soon as I started to write letters I was trying everyday to form words, to complete fragments, and then eventually, full sentences. As a child for me, the idea of school was amazing. What could be better than going to a building to play with a bunch of kids your age and learning all kinds of new information, it was all so delightful. Ever since I was born, music has been one of the biggest influences on my life, in all aspects. This includes, but is not limited to the lyrics, the instruments, and the ability it
At that time, I practiced that I must love writing just as much as I loved reading due to “the more you read, the more you write.” my teacher purchased picture books for me and checked them out of the library as well. Focusing on every word, I carefully read and write down on a book which was my practice
My previous writing experiences were somewhat good, but in some areas they were not as good as they should be. Personally some challenges I face in my writing would most likely include comprehending what some authors have written in their writings. I feel I’m not really good at understanding the theme of a story. To overcome this challenge I probably should read more and take time out to look at the words or pictures the authors is trying to depict. I strive to basically help my readers comprehend and understand the emotions I’m trying to place in this writing.
Throughout the past five years my passion for English literature and writing has been ignited thanks to the many teachers that have guided and introduced me to this intriguing world. Viewing this subject as a necessary evil in the beginning, I am astonished that I have come to say that although time consuming and tedious, I am thankful for everything these courses have provided. My weakness as a writer that I am looking forward to improving, are my grammar skills. There are three pivotal writing experiences that have impacted and shaped me into the writer I am today. Reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” by the talented Harper Lee, exploring many of the poems by the creative genius Langston Hughes and making my own poetry portfolio have all been both instrumental and enjoyable.
Truth be told I’m not a fan of writing. When I was told I'd be taking an English class, I was a little worried. Writing is something that I don’t enjoy much of. Maybe it’s because I do it on a daily basis for work. In my career, I’m writing memorandums and orders daily.
Writing has been a difficult task for me all through school. I will explore how problems writing developed into my appreciation of writing. Just facing my fears of writing has given me the tools I needed to write.
Writing has always been a means of expression but also a skill to bring to the professional world. I have found my own writing skills improve naturally as I matured as an individual, however the leaps I made came from active experiences that directly tested my ability to write. This was mainly from academic sources where I had to mold my mind differently depending on the writing. I found this difficult as I was more focused on forming empirical analysis and I was unable to stay on topic. Although I had my difficulties, I am also thankful for exposing my weaknesses. By experience, I have improved in writing a lot from continuously reading and writing different forms of essays, all while improving my writing organization.
I will be the first to admit that I lack experience when it comes to writing. I’ve written poems for the fun of it and school assignments for fear of failing classes, that’s it. The writing skills that I wield aren’t strong or college level. I can sum up the reasons why I haven’t been able to enjoy writing in the past with two main points. One is that it has always been a chore for me.
When I was younger I was a very difficult student. Throughout pre school and junior kindergarten I found it challenging to do school work and sit still, so my mom decided to homeschool me. From what I could remember it was really beneficial for me. I could have breakfast with my mom and we would learn together and she would make it fun and so much more enjoyable, until “journaling” time. My mom believes that the best form of communication and self expression is through writing, whether that be a letter or a journal or even making lists, my mom was very keen on writing.
Two of my major interests have always been reading and writing. I consider my experience with both to be great thus far.
