My Work Experience

My Work Experience I went on work experience for a week in June at Natwest Bank in Bakewell. Natwest is part of a larger organisation called the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. The Royal Bank of Scotland bought Natwest in March 2000 for £21 billion which was the biggest take-over in British banking history. Natwest is a national company and very well known so I felt quite privileged to work for them. Also the Bakewell branch was of a very high standard of service from the checks they get every month as I was shown the data of this when I went to visit them. From working in a banking environment I learnt a lot about how banking works and what goes on behind closed doors of the public, which was very interesting. I went on work experience to the Natwest because I am interested in business and the world of finance so this placement fitted in well. I was hoping to gain from my work experience: · A higher level of maturity · Communication skills · Experience of working in the world of work · Experience of working with others · An idea of a future career · How punctual I am · Experience or working with people from different areas and backgrounds · New skills · Knowledge of commitments of a full time job · The opportunity to develop and use social, practical and other skills · Responsibility · The opportunity to think about my character, skills and ability and how they relate to the characteristics and requirements of jobs. I had to get to the bank by bus both ways, which I had to organise to fit in the times of the bus to get home. I had to organise my own food at lunch times as well... ... middle of paper ... ...hich was good seeing what they had to offer and they were asking how I was getting on. I was told and learnt several safety hazards to beware of such as one saying "Keep Feet Clear". This was outside the vault so that when the vault door closes your feet are out of the way and done get chopped off. Overall I really enjoyed my work experience. In the report given by the manager of how I was on the placement I was given full marks which I was really pleased and proud of. I think in the future I will defiantly look at a job in the business and finance side as the placement has reinforced my ideas. I would perhaps though go on another work experience to another bank or finance orientated business. I believe I have really benefited from the experience and it has given me a really positive outlook on the world of work.
