Prior to beginning this course I had gone through several psychology courses and felt pretty confident in my understanding of research. I have also participated in a research a couple of times. I knew I was no expert but I was under the impression that it wasn’t extremely complicated. I have since learned otherwise and realize just how in depth and extremely complicated it can be to conduct these studies. There are many issues that can plague a study and the depth one must go to in order to collect and analyze data is astounding. My Understanding of Research As I worked my way through this course it became very apparent that I was not nearly as well versed in research as I thought I was. There are quite a few components that I had not been introduced to even on an introductory level. It was all overwhelming and a lot to take in. I did my best to work through the course material and comprehend what I could. In some ways I feel more equipped to begin the rest of my studies in psychology and in some ways I feel more inadequate than when I started. Research is quite important and there is a lot to take in. The fear of botching a project or failing at it would be a difficult struggle to overcome. Overall though, I feel more well-equipped to approach the rest of my studies. Things …show more content…
The most important aspect is, of course, to keep it all above reproach. The bible instructs us in Philippians 2:15 to be “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” (BibleHub) I now understand the importance of obtaining all data and analyzing it in great detail. Information should only be excluded if it is scientifically determined to not have any bearing on the study. Case Studies are one area where information can be discarded if it does not have any necessary place in the study of the subject or final report. (Crawford,
The subject of this case study is a 27-year-old woman, named Ambier Williams. Although Ambier has been in school for many years, this is her first experience in a research-based course. She enrolled into Liberty University,
...At first I honestly thought psychologist and psychiatrists just talked to patients or just let they ramble on. Then taking other courses I thought psychologist just did a lot of experiments to explain about the brain and why people did things. Then taking this course helped me realize that psychologists have methods and different concepts to how to approach a patient.
In order to answer some of the above questions, I decided to study one of my largest lecture classes, Psychology 120 under Bob Melara. Class is held in an enormous lecture hall, which seats over five hundred students. In order to learn the answers, I did research for several weeks. I handed out questionnaires to other students at Purdue and observed Melara’s class for about two weeks. In addition, I interviewed Saree Strom, a student in the honors section of Psychology 120.

In chapters one and two we went over the search for understanding and research methods and critical thinking. These topics were pretty general but were very helpful in the over all book. Every chapter lead into the next one. In chapter one we learned what does psychology mean. Well today there is a study for everything and well to me psychology is like the study of the body and how it works mentally not so much physically. All throws there are parts of psychology that do. To me its more backed on why people act the way they do what makes them think the things they think and how those throws came about. In the book psychology is defined as the scientific study of human and animal behavior. We also learn in chapter one about the five views or behavior. Forces within ones personality, which are often hidden, or unconsciou...
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behavior. In psychology, and all of the other sciences, relying on opinions is abandoned in order to find out which explanations best fit the evidence or data given. Science continually forces us to question our findings and conclusions. Over time, psychology has advanced greatly and a main reason for such progressiveness is because of the change in the research model used.

I developed a great academic background in psychology through more than 2 years taking professional courses, some of which are general psychology, developmental psychology, statistics, psychological research methods, Experiential Design in Psychological Research, Emotional Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Theory and Technique of Psychology Consulting and so on. Therefore, my cultivation in theory and
Research is a necessary skill in the Psychology field because it is the key to observing, diagnosing, and treating clients with psychological problems. “Among the health care professions clinical psychology is one of few to provide extensive research training.” (Howes, 1996) Clinical Psychologist uses the scientific method as the procedure for research. Psychology is the only mental health discipline that has its roots in academic research rather than in practice. “Research is the foundation of all Clinical Psychology activities.” (Plante, 2005)
During this course on abnormal psychology, our class learned about psychological disorders and varying types of abnormal psychological functioning. Our textbook explored these disorders and relayed well-rounded information. In our online classroom, we watched several films and discussed questions related to each chapter’s content. I learned quite a bit from this coursework and it promoted me to think more deeply about the topics at hand. This course helped me to focus in on what within psychology I would like to pursue and learn more about. In addition to that, this online course also aided me in developing my time management and writing-on-demand skills. All in all, I enjoyed this course and feel I have gained quite a bit from it.
Psychology explores human mental process and human behavior then tries to find a way to treat or make it better. There are different techniques and steps used to treat a patient. What really excites me is, from psychology I learn backgrounds, religious beliefs, race and other factors that determine human behavior. I learned many different disorders from this class. Everybody has some disorders in their lives. And that one little disorder can
Personality is the expression of a person’s traits according to ones feelings, mentality and behavior. It involves understanding individuals’ traits such as withdrawal and willpower and how various parts of an individual link together to form personality. Personality expresses itself from within an individual and is comparatively regular throughout in an individual’s life. Different people have different personalities dependent on factors such as environment and genetic composition. Our personality is dependent on the success or failure of our development in the eight stages of life. This is proposed by Erik Erikson. Success in the development stages lead to virtues while the failure leads to malignancies.
The test has shown that my personality can be defined as ENFJ type. People who belong to this group are good leaders, organizers and idealists. They are good at communicating with other people, finding common language with others, initiating different projects and organizing the working processes. People of ENFJ personality type possess such traits as responsibility, creativity, openness to the world, self-development and sympathy. Such people are always ready to help others and use their experience for the sake of general well-being and success. It is also said that an ENFJ-type person can easily establish relationships with other individuals and believe in the potential of others.
In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence.
The complexities of the human mind, how it works, why it works, and why it deviates sometimes, were the factors that drew me towards the field of psychology. I was born in India and as I was growing up I realized that psychological problems were not discussed in public. The mystery and intrigue surrounding the disorders further instilled in me the need to understand them in detail. As I continue my academic journey I wish to delve into the depths of Clinical Psychology in order to understand psychopathology better and use my knowledge and skills to create customized intervention plans and to facilitate a harmonious living environment.
