My experience in Guatemala was one of a kind. I remember it vividly and to the last detail. I traveled with my two older sisters, Rebeca and Jennifer. We traveled in the summer time June 2016. We arrived and met up with some of my family that lives there. The things I remember the most from the trip were the sights, the people and their culture. It was a shock on my entire body when I arrived everything felt like it was completely different There were several sights that I saw on this trip but the one that stood out the most was when I visited La Antigua. This is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala. La Antigua is also known for its beautiful architecture as well as many ruins of colonial churches. It served as the capital of the kingdom of Guatemala. Among the city was the Arco de Santa Catalina which i only briefly glanced at it. But a glance was all I needed to be able to appreciate its architectural beauty. When the building of the city was taking place, they were inspired by the Italian Renaissance and borrowed ideas from there architecture. The …show more content…

Guatemalan food, for example, changes depending on the region you are in. However, many traditional Guatemalan foods are based on Mayan foods like corn maize. Another important aspect of Guatemalan culture is its music and fashion. Guatemala’s are known for their percussion bands featuring instruments such as the marimba. Guatemalan fashion is also well known for its use of bright colored yarn-textiles such as capes and shirts. This is another reflection of Guatemalan history Mayan people. The Guatemalan culture differs from that of an American but I do believe they do appreciate our culture. I believe this because they adopt some of our customs such as music style and certain clothing
