Before I begin to formulate my monument, I would like to focus on its significance. Monuments are meant to be reminders of something or someone significant. I want this monument to speak directly to the individual on a deeper level. The monument I envision is a mirror with the words “This is the image of a hero” engraved, but can only be seen when standing in front of it. Around this monument will be a wall with a tile pattern, where heroic males and females from all over the world are represented in each tile. Heroes such as Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistanis woman who was shot by a Taliban gunman because of her activist movement towards female education, is an example of an everyday person who became a heroine. The reason why everyone should be represented is because America is a melting pot, full of rich diversity. The message I want to convey is that everyone has the potential to be a hero. Every individual was born with a gift, but how we decide to use it is what is important. A gift does not have to be athletic or some musical abilities. The fascinating thing about gifts is the wide assortment available. Some people have the gift of being a leader, while others have the gift of serving others. The intent on how these gifts are used should be positive. Positively impacting the world and the lives of people is what these heroes and heroines do. Being passionate in your specific gift is what make heroes special because they stood up for a cause, a meaning that held significance not only for themselves, but others like them.
