The client is a young girl named Lily Owens. She lives with her father, T-Ray, and her caretaker , Rosaleen. The setting is a rural area in South Carolina. Lily is haunted by the memory of her late mother. She had a very tumultuous relationship with her father. To escape this dissatisfying relationship she flees with Rosaleen, her only friend and caregiver, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Lily had neither a brother nor sister to take solace. Her life was very bitter and she was always grieving, her mother was named Deborah, who she accidentally killed. Despite the fact that her mother was dead, she thought of her in high esteem and she always thought that her mother was her guardian angel watching over her. Her cruel father on the other hand was very determined to unlock the past of Lilly’s mother. Family relationship is very critical for the growth and development a child. The kind of relationship that Lilly experiences in her family is very wanting, and it affects her psychologically. If the client has family problems, opening up or sharing their experiences can be a bit easier if they have been longing for an outlet to communicate their frustrations. It can also be a source of reluctance if the client's typical way to deal with problems is to shut down emotionally. Lily's family issues began when she was a young girl and over the years they became magnified and intensified. The relationship between her parents was dysfunctional and witnessing this as a minor impacted the way Lily interacted with others. She sought comfort in others such as Rosaleen and idealized her mother.
