The chapter that I chose for this blog post was chapter nine about mental health. The article I read was "motivational interviewing and social work practice". The article is about a different technique of changing one's behavior. It takes a focus on clients and their goals. The main principles of this idea are expressing empathy, a focus on a client being self-supportive and development of discrepancy. This has been used to help people with a drinking problem and have even been tried on cases of domestic violence victims. Rather than focusing on making a client make a choice this style of interviewing allows for them to go deeper into topics and explore more options. This style overlapped with 7 different theories.
