Fredrick Douglas said “Without struggle there is no success.” College is a constant struggle. Some people struggle to make it to class on time, to get their homework done or to find time to study while working a part time job. Struggle means that one has had to work hard for every good grade and learn from every bad one in order to graduate on time. Some people have help in college, so they don’t have to worry about money problems or wonder if they can afford books. But there are three necessary tools everyone needs to survive college: motivation, organization and discipline. Motivation is a key to surviving college. If one cannot keep themselves motivated then one cannot survive college. The only reason why most humans survive anything is because they are motivated. Whether they are motivated to win a game, get a good job, or buy a car, it is the same fuel everyone needs to keep pushing forward. In college, there are struggles with paying for college, passing all your classes and getting a good grade. No one can make a person do well in school, do their assignments, study for test or work hard to achieve their goals. That person has to want that for themselves and then work hard to achieve it. Motivation allows a person to keep persevering even when struggles come along and try to knock them down. Organization allows a person to keep track of the work that needs to be done, the materials they are going to be tested on and whatever else may come up. The can find the work they have completed and go to class prepared and ready to learn. A person who has discipline will not let anything affect them to complete their goals. They will choose long term goals over short term goals because the long term goal is the one that matters. All three of these tools are essential to survive college and anything else in
