How could two close friends drift so apart that the only action worth taking is revenge, a look into the past might help us see. Two young boys, each from well off and respected families were the best of friends. Some friendships we create as children can develop into long lasting bonds that carryout into adulthood. However, only some, other friendships may be hindered by proximity or an unhealthy relationship may have formed and maybe even both. It can plainly be seen that Montresor and Fortunato were as different as night and day, but no matter their differences the boys were inseparable from an early age. About this age youths begin to take interest in the opposite gender, and this was no different for our Montresor and Fortunato. Unfortunately, both Montresor and Fortunato took interest in Anastasia, thus forming a rift in their friendship.
