Cell phone is a telecommunication that is widely used across the world. People nowadays especially the younger generation are dependent on the usage of mobile phone. People spent most of their time using cell phone in communication such as having a verbal conversation with their peers and family, sending messages, surfing the networking, listening to music and so on. As people will not be carrying their laptop everywhere, they tend to be more dependent on their mobile phones. They use mobile phone to get first information or to spend their time talking with their friends through phone especially while driving. As people tend to be so focus on their content of conservation or lyrics of music through their phone, they are unaware of what is happening surrounding them and this may also affect their driving performance. According to Hyman, Boss, Wise, McKenzie and Caggiano (2009), even though having a conservation through phones diverts the attention of drivers more than listening to music, the occurrence music played while driving more or less affect the driver’s performance in driving. For example, distractions occur when they are too concentrate on their cell phone and may not pay attention on the road such as do not notice that there are an ambulance coming from the back, people crossing the road and so on. However, according to University of Groningen (2013), people who listen to music while driving perform better than those who drive without any music on. Background music actually helps in concentrating on the road as people have arousal that helps in decreasing their level of boredom (University of Groningen, 2013). Hence, this research intends to focus on the effect of driving distractions on inattentional blindness.
