The two top candidates for a minor league team in the California League are Concord in the San Francisco Bay Area and Mission Viejo along the coast by Los Angeles. There are reasons why neither of these cities don’t already have teams. Concord is barely out of range of the Major League teams in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is a fear that if Concord isn’t a Giants or A’s affiliate it won’t draw a big enough crowd. Mission Viejo is along the shore and there is a worry that a team wouldn’t be able to compete with people going to the beach. Each of these cities Urban Areas have a population over 600,000.
