A personal Missio Dei God’s mission has always been to reach the world with the Gospel, to save and redeem the lost, the broken, the hurting, and to bring them to repentance. This theme can be clearly seen not only throughout the New Testament, but the Old Testament and even Church History.The goal of this paper is to explore what the “Missio Dei” means, and its implications for Christians today. The Missio Dei is a latin term for the mission of God. Everything that God has done aligns with His mission and who He is. This mission is God’s universal reaching out to all of mankind, to people of every ethnicity, culture, religion, and language in history. The heart of God and how He accomplished the Missio Dei in the Old Testament was primarily pointing to the sufferings and resurrection of Christ. All scripture points to Jesus Christ and His death, burial, and most importantly resurrection. Large parts of Isaiah and Psalms directly reference this. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted (Isaiah 53:4). It is clear in the Old Testament about who Jesus was, what He came to do, and how He would do it. Despite this, it is interesting that the Pharisees, Sadducees, and a large part of the Jews disagreed about this and thought of Him only as a blasphemer. It is split into two parts, top line (blessed), and bottom line (be a blessing). “Now the Lord said to Abram “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3). Notice after “make your name great” the blessing goes from one that goes to Abram and to one that flows through him to the world. This is how God chose to reach the world, with men and women that would obey Him. Considering the area he was from Abram was most likely an idol worshiper and yet God still called him. This shows God wanting somebody to obey Him, not somebody that already had all the qualifications to follow
