In Michael Siegel’s interview published by the Washington Post, he identified four successful qualities in some of the United States most successful presidents. These qualities consist of the vision the president has for the presidency, the president has to have the wherewithal to implement his vision, the presidents must focus on few major goals at a time, and the president must understand the process and implications of decision-making. A power that was discussed by the Wiki is the president of the United States is awarded the power and ability to appoint Supreme Court justices once a current justice retires or passes away, due to lifelong appointments. As a vacant seat in the court needed to be filled, Trump appointed Niel Gorsuch whom is a member of the Republican Party. It is important that a President’s appointments someone who can support and establish a political agenda long after they leave office. Furthermore, Trump must appoint a trusted solicitor general who will take part in implementing his vision of the presidency. President Donald Trump has nominated General Noel Francisco to fill the solicitor general position. Francisco will now oversee the administration’s legal strategy as it prepares for one of the most momentous Supreme Courts. The court will hear several cases pertaining to President Trump’s travel ban and landmark religious liberty and voting rights issues. Trump discusses an important goal of his presidential agenda is implementing a fiscal policy. As, public awareness has increased on the importance of fiscal policy the president has become more involved with all aspects of developing an efficient policy. In the Wiki, a video is used that discussed president trumps fiscal policy goals during his campaign. Such as planning to slash individual income tax rates. Now that President Trump has taken office he has kept the same goals in mind that he mentioned in the video. He has made it aware to the public several aspects of his fiscal policy vision. Next, he has the goal of building the wall to combat immigration. As the presidential power and outreach has grown for this issue, so has the need for border security . Trump has planned to ensure safe and lawful admissions in to the United States by building a southern border wall to stop illegal immigration. This policy is another major topic he has discussed during his candidacy and something he has planned to focus on in his agenda. Lastly, Trump focuses on social policy of abortion. Although, the president does not have a lot of control over this type of policy, he can influence congress through areas of the bully pulpit. The strategic model acknowledges that judges seek to achieve policy goals, but it also acknowledges that they are subject to certain restrictions in doing so. Since they cannot act accordingly to preference, they must act strategically to achieve their goals given by the restrictions. It argues that like politicians, justices make their decisions based off other’s decisions or make their decisions while trying to determine how another person will react from it. This decision style says justices would base their decisions on the influence of other justices.

Political scientists have continually searched for methods that explain presidential power and success derived from using that power effectively. Five different approaches have been argued including the legal approach, presidential roles approach, Neustadtian approach, institutional approach, and presidential decision-making approach. The legal approach says that all power is derived from a legal authority (U.S. Constitution). The presidential roles approach contends that a president’s success is derived from balancing their role as head of state and head of government. The Neustadtian approach contends that “presidential power is the power to persuade“ (Neustadt, p. 11). The institutional approach contends that political climate and institutional relations are what determines presidential power. The last approach, decision-making, provides a more psychological outlook that delves into background, management styles, and psychological dispositions to determine where a president’s idea of power comes from. From all of these, it is essential to study one at a time in order to analyze the major components of each approach for major strengths and weaknesses.

Examining Trump’s rhetoric and past actions, it becomes clear that Trump’s ability to be the leader of America, especially in today’s already heated world climate, becomes questionable. When even the members of his own party refuse to endorse him and claim that he is not qualified to run a country, the general public needs to sit back and question his integrity. In Trump’s past, he has proven to be an insensitive, racist, greedy business man. Why would he prove to be any different once elected to office?
Encarta Dictionary within Microsoft Word defines leadership as,” the ability to guide, direct, or influence people.” Expanding upon that definition, my personal definition is influencing people to follow to achieve a goal, regardless of how unpleasant. Leadership is not something that happens overnight, it needs to be cultivated over time. During that process, it is necessary to identify delinquencies and make adjustments. Reviewing the feedback provided by my LPI/360 assessment, the three areas identified I need to improve on are, praising people for a job well done, actively listening to diverse points of view, and becoming more visible within the workplace.

When it comes to United States Presidents, everyone has an opinion of each president’s effectiveness. It takes character and talent to hold up to the stress of the White House. One aspect of a leader that measures their effectiveness is their capability to handle a crisis; another is their ability to make decisions for the betterment of whomever they lead, while still taking in all opinions. One example of an extremely effective president that successfully used those qualities was Abraham Lincoln.
Richard E. Neustadt, the author of Presidential Power, addresses the politics of leadership and how the citizens of the United States rate the performance of the president's term. We measure his leadership by saying that he is either "weak or "strong" and Neustadt argues that we have the right to do so, because his office has become the focal point of politics and policy in our political system. Neustadt brings to light three main points: how we measure the president, his strategy of presidential influence, and how to study them both. Today we deal with the President himself and his influence on government action. The president now includes about 2000 men and women, the president is only one of them, but his performance can not be measured without focusing on himself.

He is eccentric, powerful, but yet he makes very smart business decisions. He is also a risk taker. All these business skills have made him a very well recognized business leader, and one of the nations most known billionaires. Donald Trump has appeared in many magazines, has written a couple of books, and even gotten his own show on NBC called “The Apprentice”. But what makes Donald Trump successful in almost every endeavor he takes on? Was he born a leader? or did he just become a great leader. There are certain characteristics common in all leaders. Some of those are values, skills and cognitive abilities. Mr. Trump exhibits all of these traits. If this is what has made him as successful as he is, why are certain leaders not able to achieve his type of success? Perhaps he has something extra that has propelled him above everybody else. Everything that he touches seems to turn to gold. Donald Trump’s leadership styles have made him rich, powerful, famous and known through out the world.
