Metaphor in Hamlet
In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Act III scene 1, Hamlet’s soliloquy of “To be or not to be” is full of metaphors that bring the various themes of the play together. One of the primary themes of the play is Hamlet’s uncertainty of action and inability to decide how to cope with the problems he faces. William Shakespeare’s Hamlet is laden with tragedy from the start, and this adversity is reflected in the title character. Being informed of his father’s murder and the appalling circumstances surrounding the crime, Hamlet is given the emotionally taxing task of avenging his death. It is clear that having to complete this grim undertaking takes its toll on Hamlet emotionally. Beginning as a seemingly contemplative and sensitive character, we observe Hamlet grow increasingly depressed and deranged as the play wears on. Hamlet is so determined to make his father proud that he allows the job on hand to completely consume him. We realize that Hamlet has a tendency to mull and ponder excessively, which causes the notorious delays of action throughout the play. It is often during these periods of deep thought and reflection that we hear one of Hamlet’s famous soliloquies, which are obviously relative to Hamlet’s apprehensions and worries surrounding his current situation. The seven soliloquies throughout the play offer insight pertaining to the deteriorating mental state of Hamlet, and the circumstances which induce his decent into madness.

A being cursed for evil goes through life looking for meaning. How can a monster of biblically banished descent be challenged with ideas of morality. In John Gardner’s postmodern novel Grendel, Grendel, explores and speculates on the meaning of life, humanity, and existence while being cursed to life as a monster. Due to his own bleak existence and the observations he has made of mean, Grendel views life as meaningless. Even though he is a descendent of Cain, the distinction between good and evil is blurred in Grendel’s perspective. How can a monster view morality when he is the wicked one yet he watches humans kill each other for bloodshed? Grendel is trying to make sense of an absurd world while the different theories shape his own identity.

One of the most famous Shakespearean lines-"To be or not to be, that is the question” is found in Hamlet, spoken by the title character himself. While this is the most obvious reference that Hamlet makes to this own philosophy, Hamlet makes frequent proclamations about his stifled life throughout the play. Hamlet views his life in a negative manner, to the point where he finds himself contemplating whether or not to end his own life. Hamlet does not value his life, which causes him to become flustered with himself and his lack of action. Therefore, demonstrating that Hamlet does not value his life as one should.
In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the importance of characters Laertes and Fortinbras have been an issue that's discussed and analyzed by many literary critics. Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras are parallel characters in the play. Laertes and Fortinbras are often use by Shakespeare to compare the actions and emotions of Hamlet throughout the play. "They are also important in Hamlet as they are imperative to the plot of the play and the final resolution" (Nardo, 88). Shakespeare placed these three men: Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras into similar circumstances, which is, to avenge for their fathers' deaths. The main difference between the three is the way that each of them comes to grief of their fathers' deaths and the way they planned their vengeance.

Forgiveness is virtue, and yet it is one the most vital and toughest emotions to give or receive. People tend to remember only the unpleasant and undesirable actions of others or themselves which arise feelings of resentment and of revenge. Forgiveness is overcoming these feelings and instead to feel acceptance. Forgiveness allows people to live without hard feelings towards one another and allows us to clear our minds of blame, hate, anger, and other unpleasant emotions.
... it? Forgiveness is not easy for some to ask for or give. Some situations often make people feel or believe that forgiveness of wrongdoing acts are not worth giving or sometimes receiving. This belief is especially viewed if the wrongdoing is considered as evil. Indeed, experts say that forgiving those who have wronged us helps lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart rate. (Haupt 2012) Haupt mentions in her article, How to Forgive, And Why You Should, that Duke University researchers reported a strong link between forgiveness and strengthened immunity among HIV-positive patients. Haupt further states that benefits aren't just limited to the physical. Letting go of old grudges reduces levels of depression, anxiety, and anger. People who forgive tend to have better relationships, feel happier and more optimistic, and overall enjoy better psychological well-being.
As a nursing student, it was very helpful to learn that hand hygiene – despite that we are still novices at this path – must be executed with no flaws. And this led me to recognize what areas of the hand should be covered in the technique: palm and back of the hand, thumbs, between fingers, wrists. All health professionals must wash their hands in order to avoid the transmission of microbes among patients or from an external environment to a patient. Built up anger will weaken your immune system causing you to feel sick more often. For this reason, we must make forgiveness a lifestyle rather than a one-time event. We must learn how to surrender the burden of anger and resentment over to God and allow Him to heal the wounds caused by others. When we forgive from our hearts, we will begin to experience the peace of God in our souls. Hamlet is the best known tragedy in literature today. Here, Shakespeare exposes Hamlet’s flaws as a heroic character. The tragedy in this play is the result of the main character’s unrealistic ideals and his inability to overcome his weakness of indecisiveness. This fatal attribute led to the death of several people which included his mother and the King of Denmark. Although he is described as being a brave and intelligent person, his tendency to procrastinate prevented him from acting on his father’s murder, his mother’s marriage, and his uncle’s ascension to the throne.
I have also Learnt and accepted that the desire for revenge only brings heartache, turmoil and agitation, especially when we have experienced life filled with moments of pains and disappointments. Being on the receiving end of some unkind treatment, which was not always easy to just let go or move on-especially when you find yourself feeling maltreated and angered by trusted friends and family members. Then we become so afraid to make new friends and relationships because of our past experiences, which affect our lives. We try to protect ourselves by building a fence around us to avoid reoccurring offenses and to prevent people from getting close to us to avoid getting hurt again. Furthermore, we should learn how to embrace ourselves and place ourselves in a situation without stress, anger, regret, self-pity or judgement. Having realized that, if I have not forgiven, part of my inner strength would be caged in anger, resentment, pain or stress of some kind. Forgiveness has strengthened the goodness within me which has helped me to become more active in life. I have no shame or regrets in developing positive attitude over bad feelings. While others may not understand why I constantly forgive after being angry for such a long time, the healing power of forgiveness allows me to truly move
