Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, also known as F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of the great 20th century American Authors. His major works were The Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and the Damned, The Great Gatsby, Tender Is the Night, and his half written novel, The Last Tycoon. He had trouble fitting in with the kids in his neighborhood because of his social status. His girlfriend refused to marry him also because of his social status. Most of his work like The Great Gatsby, This Side of Paradise and many more of his works were inspired from his life. Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They were heavy alcohol consumers, which caused problems in their marriage and also earned Fitzgerald the name as the “irresponsible writer” which caused people to not take him seriously in the literary community. This also led to most of their financial problems. One more factor that contributed to their financial problems was Zelda’s mental breakdowns. She has three mental breakdowns before her death in the hospital fire. The last mental breakdown put, her in the hospital in which she died. Fitzgerald’s life influenced his works by a great deal. Most of his works resembles his life in one way or another. In his most famous book, The Great Gatsby, he is closely related to the main character, Jay Gatsby. In this book Fitzgerald’s lifestyle is similar to Jay Gatsby’s life style. He is also related to the main character in his other book, The Side of Paradise. In one of the books the main character was born into a poor family and became rich later in his life. In his other book the main character didn’t fit in with his friends in school or college just like Fitzgerald. Both the books show the problems Fitzgerald faced during his childhood.
In the book, The Great Gatsby the main character Jay Gatsby was born as James Gatz in North Dakota to a poor family. He ran away from his family because he was tired of living the poor life. He met and helped a wealthy man who took him under his wing and taught him how to behave like a rich person. He taught him the way they dress, talk, walk, and basically the way they live. He let him travel around the world with him.
Jay helped him a lot so, he left some of his money for him when he died but, his family didn’t let Jay get the money. He then joined the army after that and that was when he met Daisy and fell in love with her. Daisy refused to marry him because he was poor.
