Feudalism was a very important system that was created in medieval Europe. The birth of feudalism and how it works: The birth of feudalism started around 800. By the time around the 1000 they started to place people. The way they placed people is based on how much power they had and how much land they owned. The first people to start off in feudalism were the knights and the mounted soldiers. They were also the more important roles in the military of feudalism. Kings would give many things to the other roles in feudalism. One of the main things that kings would give to the other roles in feudalism is land. For example king Charlemagne would give land to the vassals. “Charlemagne made sure he had enough land for the vassals” (Biel 24). This shows how one of the famous kings in feudalism would give land to the vassals. Another example of Charlemagne giving things to other people in feudalism is when “Charlemagne helped to make the church a powerful, political and economic institution as well as a religious one (Biel 24)”. This shows that not only did the kings give land to the other people, but they also gave things like making their church a good political economic and religious institution. The kings would also receive things from other people in feudalism. Because the kings would give things to the other people such as lords they would give him things in return. The lords would be expected to give the kings a large army of knights. But first, before the lords would give those knights to the king, he would have to get those knights good armour, horses, fine clothing, and any home at the castle. Another thing that the kings would receive from people such as the vassals and serfs is loyalty and respect. The vassals would “promise of loyalty and military service to his superior (Biel 9). This shows that the kings would also gain respect and loyalty because they gave things and because of the feudal oath.
