1. As you were reading, what other texts were you reminded of? Be specific in you comparisons. • As I was reading the book the Maze Runner I was frequently reminded of the Giver. In both books the time is sometime in the future and is in a community separate from the rest of the world. Both communities have their own way of functioning separate from the rest of the world. In both stories there is one main character, in the Giver Jonas, and in the Maze Runner, Thomas, who help change the norm of the society. In both stories there were a specific group of people assigned to govern the community and the people (Elders and the Keepers). In both the Giver and the Maze Runner our interests assign different jobs and everyone does their job so the society can function properly. The Giver seems tried to be a Utopian Society while The Maze Runner is the complete opposite and is a Dystopian Society. In the Giver there are no endangerment or threatening situations while in the Glade there is danger everywhere around you. The reasons why I believe that the Giver and Maze Runner are similar are because they are both separate societies that function differently and are isolated from the rest of the world and have their own way of functioning. • Another book that comes to you mind when you read the Maze runner is the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games and the Maze Runner are both dystopian societies and there are no adult characters to guide them, but instead they have to create their own way of governing the society and have to create the order of people. In both books the main character had to oppose not just a single character as an antagonist but an entire system or society. In the Maze Runner the Antagonist was the group of people that crea... ... middle of paper ... ...only way of finding out if they reach home is by reading the next book. I feel that the next book is going to be just as great but just wished, they could have added a little more to the ending. ➢ I believe James Dashner did an extraordinary job in writing the story, the Maze Runner. The way the kids escaped is truly remarkable. It seemed earlier there would simply by a door behind the ivy and they would easily exit the maze. But the variables thrown towards the Gladers just added twist to the story and created more action and suspense. All the events from the beginning of the story to the end all fell in one place and connected with each other in solving the maze. The way the maps all formed a letter, which formed a code, to be entered into a computer was extraordinary. I really enjoyed the way how the Gladers escaped the Maze and can’t wait to read the next book.
